A reported 18,000 rank & file police officers marched through the streets of London, what a disgrace.
What is this country coming to why was this allowed to happen?
Why were they not given a good kickin, in order to get back to their station in life?

I bet YOU'D march as well, if you were an officer on their wages, doing the lousy job they have to do.

That was not the question Ice maiden
"Given a good kickin" by whom? They were afforded protection by on-duty police officers.

Here's the best bit... the anarchist group Class War urged its supporters to be there to "boo-a-bobby". One woman - thought to be a counter-protester - was arrested for a public order offence. Ha Ha.
Sorry Fletcher - it wasn't - but you made it sound like it was a disgrace that 18,000 officers should be marching at all.
Why?

Er... because we live in a democracy?
Admittedly they sometimes have a hard job, but they are very handsomely paid for it. Basic pay is very good compared to other public sector workers, and most have the opportunity to do a lot of overtime.

That said, the independent pay review made its recommendation and the Government are being disingenuous by not properly adhering to it.

A lot of those Police Officers on the march didn't look very fit. It's probably the first time most of them have walk edanywhere in years.

You were joking right?

"get back to their station in life"?
All down to this disgracefull lying spiing Government we have. Hain has gone now when is wacky baccy jacci off.
Typical of course the sweaty rozzers got their pay rise.
McBottle needs to start looking over his shoulders. His days will be numbered if he keeps this up
of course as we know fletcher has never needed plod at all, probably one of those anarchist to55ers who think we can live without them in fluffy bunney comunes sha66ing his bandit bum chums.
Well socialists have always hated the old Bill, look at the last time they where in charge, they earned a pittance. Still when I got in I gave them 30% straight away then set them on the miners, that was great fun, loved giving old shredded wheat head a good hand bagging. I notice Brown has given the coppers in Sweaty land a rise. England will take so much and pow, Brown's political head will be on a spike soon then Plod can have decent rise.

Fletcher, there's no simple way to say this: you are a tw@t!
MrsT,

Police pay has risen 39% over the last ten years of this Labour Government. Their numbers have also vastly increased since the dark days of Maggie's tyranny.
To me and I suspect most 'ordinary' people, Fletcher is living proof that care in the community does not work.
Wa$$er.......

wooo hoo Gromit, the lefties hated me beacuse I exposed their flawed ideology, I interupted their "project" of turning us into a Soviet outpost. Tell you what Gromit, you'd be happy in Cuba mate they still have communisn you'd love it there!
MrsT

My post at 9:47 says the government should pay the Police their rise.

I then point out that Police numbers have increased and that their pay has risen 39%.

For which you brand me a cummunist and say I should go and live in Cuba. I fear you may have lost your marbles.
does the phrase "Maggie's Tyranny" ring any bells Gromit?

The patient was close to death, the cure was harsh but it was needed, fortunately the patient survived to go on to hate it's saviour!
Seem to remember she was got rid of by her own Cabinet, which by your definition would make, Major, Lamont etal communists as well.

You do say the country went on to hate her, so there is something we agree on.
Its not a bad wage is it, I didnt realise till I looked.

Start as a trainee on more than 21,000 and over 23,000 when you complete the training. Then up to 33,000 as an ordinary plod.

Having said that, the government should have kept to their agreement.
Nice leap of Illogic Gromit. You are correct, the wets bottled it but I don't think they where inherently lefties.

There may be a lot who don't understand what was done was necessary but I'd imagine they'd be the same ones moening whatever.

Here's a little exercise for you Gromit, ask yourself where the country was heading in 1979 and ask yourself where we'd be today without the Thatcherite reforms.
A 39% increase over 10 years gives a compounded average rate of 3% per annum . Wow, that is huge.

Let us see what the increase in MPs basic salary over the same period works out as;

1997 - 43,860
2007 - 60,675

an increase of 38.5%.

So, could this extortionate rate of increase of Police pay actually be in line with other public sector pay?
