Husbands with multiple wives have been given the go-ahead to claim extra welfare benefits following a year-long Government review, The Sunday Telegraph can reveal.

The outcome will chiefly benefit Muslim men

Still cheaper than each of these adults living as singles, each in their own home and claiming benefitsprobably with single family supplements, rent and council taxes paid.

In 2006 there was an outcry over 'superdad' benefit scrounger who shared his house with his wife, his mistresses and at least 14 children under 16 - all paid for by the state.

He certainly wasn't Muslim. But as was stated at the time, the money they received was a fraction of what they would have had if all the women and him each had their own homes.
Firstly, my reaction is that this is daft. But not for the reasons you'd expect.

I feel that no-one should have a family unless they can support them. This may put me in the minority, but there you go.
BUT - the fact is that state benefits exist. So do you draw the line and say "your values don't match mine, therefore your family cannot use these instruments of the state"?
Of course you don't . Therefore, you allow everyone - regardless of creed, political view, etc etc - to take part.

If you feel this is unfair, you only have to take on multiple partners yourself and get your money's worth - no-one's stopping you.
Its not the money, its the principle! Why is this country yet again bowing down to Islam. If any British person went to live in an Islamic country they would be expected to abide by Islamic law (otherwise the machetes will be branded about).
Quite tigger

If we lived 'over there' we would be allowed more than one wife (well, the men would lol) so why are they not subject to English law when here? One wife per man

The rules here are bordering on ludicrous. See child benefit paid to those living overseas
stop jumping on the Islam bandwagon tiggerblue - as Ethel's rightly pointed out, it doesn't just apply to muslims.
Do I not have a right to air my views Whickerman? As I said before, for me its the principle and not the money issue.
You're right tiggerblue, and I should have read your post more closely.

In fact, it seems that anyone -foreign or British, Islamic or otherwise - that claims this benefit is indeed abiding by British law.

(Or if not - can you point out how?)
as pointed out it doesnt just benefit muslim men, but it is for their benefit, it just so happens their may be a handful of non muslims that it will gain, but it is for muslims, like everything else, we seem to cave in to these peoples every whim.

why cant we just make it plain to these people that if they arent happy with life over here then please by all means feel free to go, and the sooner the better, then perhaps we can start reclaiming our country and its identity.

the poeple that "run" this country and the EEC will not be happy until they finally achieve their plan of destroying our white Northen European heritage and turning us into one homogenous mass that they have total control over
The beneficiaries will be those people entitled to receive the payment.

Presumably before the changes, the claimants had to claim as single people, now they can have their marital status recognised. Its not as if these people were not claiming and receiving benefits before is it. This just now seems much more equitable and fair, which is one of the good things about this country, unlike other countries.

Hang on, aren't they worse off?

Scenario 1 (pre this go ahead) - man & 2 wives. Man & 1 wife claims couple benefit, 2nd wife claims single person benefit income support (57.45)

After law - now 2nd wife can't claim single, but will get 33.65 according to the above link.
I was under the impression that bigamy was illegal in the UK. Do they waiver that law on religious grounds?
No Booldawg, it's just that the UK now recognises marriages that took place in other states under their laws. To quote the piece above:
"...polygamous marriages can now be recognised formally by the state, so long as the weddings took place in countries where the arrangement is legal."
If one wife obtained full-time work would benefit cease for all the wives and husband or just for her and husband?

Soon there will be a rise in these marriages as various other 'wives' see it as a way of entering Britain and receiving benefit to which no right to.

Could you explain why changes in the benefit system will impact upon immigration?

Are you suggesting that currently there are 'wives' living separated from their husbands who although could be resident in Britain have not done so as they were going to get more benefit as a single person, but now that it has decreased, they plan to live in this country?
Any man with more than one wife deserves every penny and an M.B.E. or something similar.
Ruby

Very easily

Asian man living over here wih 1 wife, goes back home marries 3 female friends who want to live in Britain, comes back and legally claims under the new rules for polygamous marriages. Net cost to the system 100 per week.

3 happy females with all the rights to NHS treatment, larger homes to be provided for the extended family etc
How to get more of your countrywomen allowed in GB. Marry 'em. By the way does this work both ways ? Can women have more than one husband ? If not why not ? Let's ALL become Muslims and change that awful religion from within !
How many white British men resident in the UK have fathered children by more than one woman, and how many of those women are single parents living on benefits, whilst the man lives with his wife/girlfriend and more children in a different house, on benefits?

I bet there is one or two.
You're wasting your time,Ethel. Once any of the magic words "Muslim", "Benefits", "immigrants", etc., have been invoked, all reason goes out the window...
What about wives with multiple husbands? I'm kind of warming to that idea and I'd like to know what they'd be entitled to.
