I know we have discussed this on here before, and we have had mixed reactions. Most people apposing it said it was because there is a risk of innocent people being put to death.

Personally, I do.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you agree?

I am not sure what comment to make here, but I do know that if it was husband/children who were killed by this scum that I would want to personally track them down and kill them myself - no hesitation.

So, although reading what she said seems shocking, I would want the same myself.

Why should they have the priviledge of life?
Death penalty is never right in any circumstances.

It doesn't act as a deterrent - look at the USA.

It reduces us all to the level of the murderers.
Society (that's us) says you shall not kill, and as you did we will kill.
Very common sort of story

"It's the only language they understand" - "Ultimate deterrant"

Of course it doesn't deter does it?

Otherwise America would have a tiny murder rate and it doesn't does it? It's huge!

Capital punishment simply wouldn't achieve the desired results.

But its so wrong that these people get a few years in prison and then thats it!
Yes I agree with the death penalty for various reasons. It may not act as a deterrent, but it does:
Serve as retribution to the victims family as Mrs Newlove says.

Stop killers being released and killing again

And it's a cheaper option than keeping them in prison
You do sometimes wonder why we keep people alive though, I hate too say it but I want revenge paedophilles, rapist's, murderers who do it for profit or cheap thrills forfit their right to life!
I agree with the death penalty but only for more than one murder, either a double murder, or if the murderer serves time and then does the same thing again or for serial killers. This eliminates the chance that a man could be innocent when put to death.
When they had the death penalty a murder was a big thing and people talked about for months but now it seems to be an every day occurance.
I also think that foreign nationals who commit serious crimes over here should be deported no matter what,no ifs or buts that they are going to be tortured on their return to their motherland, they should have thought of that in the first place, this might make them think twice before commiting crimes here. Yesterday the national newspaper stated that a foreign national is arrested every four minutes in the UK , surelt there should be more attempt to check peoples criminal record before welcoming them to come and commit crimes here. We are too soft, so are our jails.
Dee Sa - good valid points there. Totally agree but still if my daughter was his/her 1st murder victim I would want the death penalty then not when they had killed another.
How often do you think a British National is arrested for a crime abroad?

You should stop reading newspapers like that they're for the easily lead!
If we bring in the death penalty we all become murderers.
But panic if it was one of your children, what would you want to happen.

Maybe its a mothers complete protection desire that I feel like this?
If someone was breaking into your home you'd kill that person to defend yourself and your family, I think we should have a right to defend our society against the scum. (i know i sound like something from a cheap 80's action film but it's just the way i feel)
I would have no hesitation in killing anyone who killed or raped my daughters. However, the death penalty is a broad brush and you can't take the risk that even one innocent person is hanged.
Let these people do hard time - no suicide watch (we are well rid of Shipman and Fred West, and if only Ian Huntley would sort himself out). Put them in with hardcore criminals so they know what fear and intimidation are like from the other side.
Me too badboy - I would not hesitate to protect me and my family.

I was home alone one night and thought someone was upstairs. I got the biggest knife from the kitchen and would have used it.
What sort of death would you choose?

Hanging? Lethal injection? Or would this clean and immediate ending of their life not satisfy your desire to punish?

Perhaps you would prefer them to suffer as they die.

No. It is never right.

Exactly Sally and if youd've stabbed someone breaking into your house id've defended you with my last breath x
Some of you say that the Death Penalty is not an effective deterrant. Maybe not, but we certainly do need an effective deterrant, something which will put the fear of God into these hooligans.
What was wrong with Hard Labour? The prospect of spending a few years on the moor breaking rocks might make them think.

And for minor offenders, the jack-the-lads who think no-end of themselves and make life hell for others, The Stocks would be ideal. Let their chums jeer at them a bit.

I can't wait to hear the condemnation from the softies out there!

Aquagility sounds really good to me. Hard labour and no nice little treats.

so many pros and cons. It all depends on what side you sit on. If you had someone in your family killed, you would want the person killed, an outisder looking in would argue about the death penalty.

Personally, I agree to it. An eye for eye is what I believe, and though Im no bible basher, I do believe in what the bible says that "god giveth, and god taketh away" Meaning god gave life and only he should take it, not some chav scum and his mates.

I wouldnt agree to hanging or beheading but definately Electric Chair or Gas Chamber. Lethal injection is too quick and painless.
only God... and you then, spaced?
