A leader who's no longer a leader because he lost the general election and so is now making suggestions for policies that he has no power to see enacted? Not particularly.
I agree - sadly it won't happen tho.
We need a leader again, thats the bottom line!

Churchill would not have stood for any of the current camaignes, nor do i think would Thatcher. It seems all the wishy washy people are coming though now, lets hope we can find a leader of a party soon that cares about the country, not about robbing us blind for nothing - Brown, and ride my bike to work with 3 cars behind me - Cameron

A leader is a person that leads and listens
uplifts his people doesn't waffle when questioned
is the chief, where can we find one
Is it just me, or is there some irony to "expatscot" telling us what leader Britain needs?
I may be wrong but I believe Howard made the comment before he lost the election.
As to whether a Scot, expat or not, has a right to express an opinion - nationality is no barrier to good or bad ideas, so I judge the policy by its content and practicability, not by who said it or why. I suspect that Mr Howard's comments re Christianity might hold more water if more of the "Christians" turned up in church each Sunday rather than conformed to a mere superstitious desire to be married (when they bother) and have their children christened, in church. On the basis of what percentage of adherents attend daily/ weekly services, I would hazard a guess that there is more Muslim religious observance in this country than Christian.

Even if there were more muslims than christians does not mean that the muslims should have the upper hand in this country. I would hazard a guess that the majority of people in this country do not practise any religion at all. I am sick to death of all this appeasement. I do not wish muslims any harm (well apart from the likes of Hamza and his cohorts) but the sooner someone has the guts to stand up to them the better. I would welcome a leader like this. Indeed I would.

It doesn't really matter if John Howard was in power or not, when he made the comments, the point is, he's voiced aloud what immigrants should do, and how to behave.

My forebears were Immigrants, (not Christian, as I am not), and they accepted the rules when they came, they were allowed to practice their religion freely, as the Muslims are, the difference being, the Muslims, (only some), want everything, and have stated, they want to take over the country.

We need someone in power, to stand up and repeat those words.

But as Postog says, won't happen, at least for the forseeable future.

Can you prove its all fairy tails? No you can't.
It gives some clarity to right and wrong for many people and wether or not it can be proved it also gives peace of mind.
dundurn, you are quite right what you say about the way some christians observe their religion apposed the the way other religions do.
I know many people who call themselves christians who haven't seen the inside of a church since the last time they attended a wedding.
But thats not what its about. Its about practising the things that are written down. The main one being be nice to eachother. Wether you are christian, muslim or what ever if the world stuck to that one request we just make this a nicer place to be.
Interesting speech from the descendant of a white immigrant. I wonder what the aborigines make of it.
Yes Australia has such a fine reputation in race relations doesn't it?

What's next the Emmelda Marcos Guide to responsible financial planning?
Before you all get your panties in a bunch debating the shorcomings of the alleged author/speaker of this passage, it's been around since at least 2005 and been attributed variously to open letters to Aussie papers, yada yada yada......(you get the drift) Wouldn't you better putting your considerable intellectual capacities to debating the merits (or otherwise) of the sentiments contained therein?

(above link to another instance of the same)
That's even funnier!

White Australia saying "Our country, your right to leave"

Maybe it should say "Our country now, your right to get back to your reservations before you get kicked back!"

This speech has been cut and mixed with other sources, and most certainly is not attributable in this form to John Howard. It is a viral e-mail designed to take further his original comments at the time, for whatever end the hoaxter wanted.

Thats all as maybe, but as I said, wouldn't it be good if one of our leaders were to say that?,

its what most of us think.
Hi Lonnie
What worries me is that they will take Howard's advice and leave Australia, and come over here!!!
Question Author
Hi John,
Thats a good point.

'10',
Nothing to do with this thread, but how was Malta?, and did you manage to get some film?.
As far as debating the merits or not of the sentiments contained in the "speech". I agree with every word. Even if you take out the references to christians it still holds water.
Most people I know would agree with it also.
