I am glad that the above Lady looks like she is on the road to recovery. After Churchill she is the greatest leader Great Britain has ever seen.

Though who oppose her fall in to one of the following categories. Simple as that.

1) Peasant

2) Ill-educated

3) Poor (because they have chosen that life style)

4) Argentine soldier

5) Ex-miner (Of which I have a degree of sympathy)

6) Communist, scabby free-loading DSS-dependent filth.


Bring her back to power. Make Britain Great again!!!!

Remembered for the poll tax riots; the miners strike; the 3,000,000 unemployed; the failed bankrupt businesses and not to mention the housing slump where many hard working families lost their homes. And you want a return to this?

Thatcher's fundamental achievements - while doing plenty of harm - do deserve respect. Fact of the matter is that the Unions needed quashing, and there was no reason whatsoever (and plenty of reasons against) keeping the bulk of industry nationalised. Thatcher deserves credit for bringing these reforms through.

Her third term, though, was an absolute disaster.

So I think it's going waay too far to say she's the second greatest leader we've ever had (Disraeli? Gladstone? Lloyd George?), and even her supporters must admit the damage several of her policies inflicted, she does certainly deserve respect for the basic acheivements.

As I said I have a degree of sympathy with the miners. However, we are sitting on an estimated 30-50 years of fossil fuel on our doorsteps. If the middle east continues the way it does, our coal will be like gold.

Poll tax??? If you are worrying about poll tax you easily fall in to category 3. Or maybe number 6 as some people believe ALL public services are miraculously paid free of charge!!!! Hogwash.

To be honest, I am a little too young to fully appreciate the real merits of Baroness Thatcher.

But what I do remember whilst growing up in London was there was a village bobby in every community (Yes, even North London!!), muslims were as rare as Panda bears and the kids had something to aim for. Millionaire life styles were in reach through education and hard work NOT through footballers wages and (C)rap music gangsta sh!te!!!!

She gave this country purpose and meaning and The Belgrano was a good thing!!!!.

Mrs T left office when I was in the lower sixth so I wasn't an adult when she was in power. Had I been a couple of years old though I would not have voted for her. However I bloody well would now.

It's a shame my mum isn't on here. She is the worlds no.1 Thatcher hater and her favourite debating subject.

We, her family, are very careful not to allow conversations to go anywhere near politics, housing, employment, coal etc etc. but she is unbeatable at turning on a sixpence in the middle of an innocent conversation and venting her spleen about 'that woman'.

I liked Thatcher but my mum makes some very good points against.

Coal mining in this country was rapidly becoming outdated. British coal had progressively become more expensive due to the depths you have to dig to get it, therefore it makes more sense to buy it abroad, where it's much cheaper.

The Unions were constantly blockading services (the government even having to - unsuccessfully - obtain emergency powers in 1973). See, because the industries were nationalised, wages had to be kept down because none of the people running them dared lay anybody off when they were overproducing, for fear of incurring the wrath of the unions. Which then caused another strike over pay.

End result were industries severely in debt as loans were the only way to sustain them. Thatcher deserves full credit for quashing the unions and breaking the cycle.
