Can I have your opinions please on what the best UK newspaper is. I live in London and am trying to get into reading newspapers - but they all seem so focussed on scandals/'celebrities' and other whinging twaddle. I want to read something that keeps me up-to-date with world news and the bigger issues in society. Thanks :-)

The Independent
The Daily Telegraph I read at least the front page every day...and hell i'm only 16.
The Times Guardian, Times, Telegraph and Independent all have decent on-line editions, and it also possible to have a summary email each morning from most of them.
The Guardian.
The Torygraph - avoid the Grauniad at all costs, unless, of course, you are after a job at the BBC or a walking counsellor/Terry Nappy advisor/Black Lesbian Pygmy outreach worker for a local authority.
The sun and the Star
Got to go with the Independent, which as the name suggests gives an independent view of the news, the other broadsheets are more biased in their political alignment.
Independent
The Independent has gone to the dogs since it went tabloid.
If you don't want gossip/scandal, then just bypass the tabloids. All the broadsheets are worth a look but some are definitely more politically biased than others. Personally, I prefer The Times. However, if you want a paper that isn't full of gossip, just gives you the news without any verbosity, then I'd go for the Metro (you get it on the tube)...and it's free! It's a really good paper.
You could always go for the Guardian if you wanted to avoid spouting cliches about left wingers like scubaboy did.
Good god, have you ever read The Guardian? On certain days it is page after page of BBC & local authourity jobs. Hardly a cliche.
Good point well made, scuba. Now, about this other bit of well observed, cliche-free tripe: "walking counsellor/Terry Nappy advisor/Black Lesbian Pygmy outreach worker for a local authority"?

Goodness gracious - can a girl never ask a question here without it turning into a verbal slanging match ?!? Hehehe - love it that everyone is so passionate about their newspapers. Thanks for your input all - will check the recommedations out.
Yeh, gotta hold my hands up: 'twas a bit stereotypical, but it is Monday.
My god, am losing it....its Tuesday today.
