I'm sure you'll realise why I feel such a strong dislike for the local Chavs.
Especially when I walked past a group of them last week and heard them guffawing about it.

Actually Le Marchand, it is absolutely a class thing.
Having an issue with unemployed violent criminals is fine. And goes without saying.
But 'chavs' is usually the term for anyone who appears on Jeremy Kyle, or who lives on a council estate and wears Burberry, or who wears white Reeboks and called their daughter Chantelle.
And the fact that these people are assumed to be scrounging, irresponsible, lawless oafs is pure, 100% solid gold snobbery.

Snob ^^^^ lol
Chavs is a new term for what people concieve as lower class.
I however dont believe in a class system and in fact I am entirely opposed to it.
Would Layabout and scrounger not be a more fitting description to the common perception of 'chavs'.
Still snobbery what ever way you want to gloss it.

No it isn't. It's just ignorance. Most folk who assume Chavs are entirely scroungers and the like are usually pretty damning of such behaviour irrespective of class. Plus they're often first to point out non-Chav members of the 'working class' (god I hate that phrase...) who are hard-working and contribute etc.
Note that I'm not defending the strereotyping. I just find the trend among liberal intellectuals to stamp class on everything extremely annoying.
