Honour killings

You cannot sweep these under the table and there are many more I could post, and most of them committed in this country.
The Crown Prosecution Service says about 12 women are victims of honour killings in the UK each year.
The researchers fear the real figure is much higher.
The study found that honour crimes are being carried out by third and fourth generation immigrants.
How can anyone now continue to make excuses?

Over 100 women in the UK are murdered in domestic violence incidents (minus your 12, that makes about 80 deaths that are not honour killings). 25% of all women will be a victim of domestic violence in their lifetime.
Religion (in Honour killings) is just an excuse for male violence which happens in all societies..

There you go again Gromit, we are not discussing how many Women, Men, Children are killed.
The subject under discussion is Honour Killings. Not Suicides, not police killings, not mercy killings, but HONOUR KILLINGS carried out by some Muslims. How many more times before it finally sinks in?
But then I notice that Answerbank is getting a little nervous. I see that I have been Edited.

A report from a rightwing think-tank reported in a rightwing newspaper may be accurate or it may not. But when you get sentences like 'the researchers fear the real figure may be much higher' you have to ask questions. On what grounds do the researchers fear this? If they have evidence, why doesn't it make it into the report? If they do not have evidence, why do they make this claim? Could it be because they want to put the fear of god into ABers without the troublesome business of producing proof?
jno fears it could be.

I wish the media and the authorities would stop referring to these murders as ' Honour ' killings
We run the risk of cementing further the belief , in the warped minds of these misguided people , that it is honuarable to perform these killings .
There is nothing honurable about these acts - they are pure and simple , pre - meditated murder - nothing more , nothing less .

It is coming clear to me now that you do not understand my answers. And oddly, you seem to be reading things that are not there (police killings? Where did that come from?).
I have roundly condemned these killings and the wahabbis that pertetrate them, yet you are still not happy. What is the point of your relentlous bile?

Keyplus - In another post you say that women in the Muslim religion are not second class citizens. In the case of the young muslim lady murdered by her dad, the chief of police said " It's a Muslim country, so nothing can be done about these 'honour' killings....."
Yes, well, it's just a woman isn't it ...so it doesn't matter much, is what he's saying.

Only because that is how you posted it.
Why not discuss the number of men who kill their wife or partner (irrespective of colour, race, religion etc!).
That number is about 2 a week in the Uk, which is a frightening number.
So "we" have a lot to be ashamed of before we pick on other groups.

anotheoldgit, the problem you have is that, like the Daily Mail, you are selective on what you highlight.
In this country there are thousands of Asian doctors, nurses and other medical staff all working hard to save people's lives.
Some days there are crimes committed by a member of the Asain commuity.
What do the Daily Mail report - about the thousands of doctors who are doing such great work, or the one Asian who commits a crime.
Why the one Asian who commits a crime of course.
Do yourself a favour, stop reading the Daily Mail or Daily Express and start reading a paper that reports the news rather than one that spreads hate.

Le Chat - Whish policeman and where he said that. Did you hear him saying or you are depending on media stunts. However if we do believe he said so. Where in Islam is it written. I will leave it to you to find out. If you remember my postings "as seems you do", then I have said so many times that I would never look at the people of any religion to judge that religion, being that Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism or any other religion. You should look at the religious teachings with open mind. And although I am Muslim but I have looked at other religions, and you know what? That made me more proud that I am Muslim. Because Islam is the most practical religion. Does not matter if few people are bad or media always uses a bigger microscope when it comes to Islam. Otherwise you know and I do too that even after all this propaganda where not even one day goes when you do not hear anything against Islam, Even if traffic light does not work someone would blame Islam. And still more than ever people are entering in Islam in the West. There must be a reason behind that. The only reason is that due to all the propaganda more and more people have started looking into Islam.

There is no death sentence for someone who leaves Islam. Only reason it is so much mistaken here in the west is because people who leave any Muslim country and come to Europe they have the most acceptable asylum case when they say that because I left Islam so my life is in fear. That gives them a perfect reason. If they, for example give any political reason then once that political party is in power they are supposed to go back.
According to the Koran's statement (hukm), nobody can be compelled within the Deen, that is, no one may be forced into religious practices
As far as honour killing is concerned. Here are few facts.

Lonnie, I regret to say that the USA still has capital punishment (not in all states) and it doesn't seem to work at all. Their murder rates are rather higher than ours. Likewise, public amputations in some of the more hardline Islamic countries don't seem to have stopped theft. The truth is, I believe, that it's not the severity of punishment that deters people but the certainty of it. That is, you're only deterred if you think you'll be caught.
The number of murders in London has actually fallen every year for the last five years from 222 to 160 (according to Ken Livingstone - but as far as I can see, Boris hasn't contradicted him on this). New York, which has drastically cut its own murder rate with a policy of zero tolerance for several years, recorded about 500 last year. So perhaps, in fact, our way works?

Everyone agrees Honour Killings are abhorrent, and the people who perpetrate them are evil. Any religious commentator who promotes them is evil.
What I and many others don't agree with, is that we should tar every Muslim with the same brush, and label them all as evil. When we try to explain why, you consider it be off topic, which is utterly ludicrous.

HONOuR
A tangible symbol signifying approval or distinction.
The quality of being honourable and having a good name
Show respect towards.
Just a few statements I found whilst looking up this word.
None of them discribes exactly what these misrable men are about. There is nothing even remotely honorable about them. The religion isn't much better if it advocates this.
