"According to the British Crime Survey, knife-enabled crime (any crime involving a knife) over the past decade has remained stable at around 6-7% of all crime, comprising 30% of all homicides.

In fact, the most recent crime survey by the Metropolitan police showed that knife crime has actually dropped by 15.7% over the past two years, from 12,122 to 10,220 incidents."

Feel free to ignore the statistics if they do not fit your preconceptions.

that's what I said, RR, just dismiss any statistics by calling them lies. I won't bother digging up any more for you since you're already made your mind up.

Stats are fiddled anyway
okay, here's another one: "Knife crime has increased by 28% a year since Labour took power."

I just made it up as I know it'll cheer you up.
statistics
official statistics showed that a record number of motorbikes had not paid road tax. remember OFFICIAL

rechecked they did not show any such thing. OFFICIAL

how come they never publicized the new OFFICIAL statistics ?

do you trust all statistics ? have you seen any little green men recently ?
I understand that in a lot of cases these days, a crime number is not even issued.

No crime number = no crime.

No crime = no case to solve

Less cases to solve = crime figures are falling

Yes, statistics can be "manufactured"
Easiest way to reduce the actual crime and not the stats is to give the police more power to stop and search, and anyone caught carrying a knife, 5 years jail, and 10 years for a gun.

And anyone between the ages of 16 to 25 who is out of work for no good reason, 2 years National Service
elvis - jolly good idea. use all the chavs as cannon fodder!!! or, if we have to be pc about things, they can help to clean up the messes they have made. sounds good.
has mr leg end had his posts removed or is my computer playing up ?
Elvis is dead right. Jail for anyone found carrying a blade.

A zero-tolerence regime would get my vote, with a sliding scale punishment system, starting with on-the-spot fines of (say) 50 quid for dropping litter or drinking in a public place working up to a 5-year sentence for being "tooled up".

Get these kids off the streets, and make the country a safer place to live in.

I would also endorse strict " stop and search" measures. It might be a tad "inconvenient" to start with, but the message would soon get through.

Police should be able to jump a gang, whether they be white, black, asian, yellow, green blue etc etc, and have them spreadeagled facedown on the floor at gunpoint and searched, anyone carrying should then be sentenced the very next day

I know what you mean Raggy, Human Rights and all that

Cherie Blair/ Booth is a great fan of that

Its obvious to many why Britain is in this dreadful state. Only today in the news Canada hopes to import 100,000 key workers from Britain. Who do we attract? Unwanted scum both legally and illegally.
Raggy, you make me so happy but, mate, you're doing that thing again.

When people criticise your views, you call it censorship. Why is that? What is it about having your views challenged that you find so threatening? Are you afraid they won't stand up to scrutiny?

And then - brilliantly - you suggest that reduced crime but more complaints is a no-win situation. Complaints are as bad as crime are they? You really don't like people speaking up do you?

You are allowed to argue back, kidda. We're all for that.
