We should have a state funeral for MrsT ........
...because without her, we would not have "state" at all, the cold war would still be going on, the wall would be up and we'd be soviet outpost waiting in line for a loaf. discuss!

Our greatest loss is that there is nobody who could even dream of matching her. She began by taking on the power of the unions (at a time when even the funeral undertakers were refusing the bury the dead in 1979 - the so-called "winter of discontent") and she ended her reign as supreme leader, with our nation economically sound, the envy of Europe, and had it not been for her decision to take on the miners in 1984-85 thjis country would have lost more in manufucturing through the onset of communism than Hitler achieved through his blitzkreig in 1940-42. A State Funeral is the least this nation can offer as the ultimate accolade to a truly remarkable leader.
Thatcher great. LOL.
Churchill was great.
I lived through her. She created the self obssessed society. The me me me generation that has dragged this country down to the state it is now. Tony Blair with new labour/old tory just added the finishing touches.
Churchill got us through a dreadful war and out the other side.
She was on the bog during a skermish.
Hardly worthy of a state funeral.

Jake, it was Ronnie and me that sorted all that soviet stuff out. We just maintained the conditions that meant the RussKies could not afford the cold war any longer. Ok we got lucky with old Gorby comming on side with his "glasnost" etc.

I did'nt realise that Thather defeated comunism single handedly, the military policy in Germany was stand and fight and wait for the Americans the life expectancy of a British soldier in Germany if it was invaded was about 40 minutes (I understand).
What is this state you refer too?
She crippled the NHS, she destroyed British industry, she made us dependant on foreign fuels, she destroyed the merchant navy, she destoyed the ship yards, she destroyed Scotland Wales and most of the north of England and she destroyed social housing.
Thatcher did what she said she was going to do (but then so did Hitler) and she had a mandate off the electorate, I do think she was right about Northern Ireland (although De Lorean was a huge mistake).

That's pretty much it wasn't it?
Maggie pretty much just maintained the status quo the way other prime ministers had before her and Major did after her.
Much as you may love her you can't credit her with that!
Anyway who exactly is planning this State Funeral for her?
I can't imagine Gordon Brown or the Queen being keen on the idea!
Is this a Daily Mail manufactured story by any chance?

Hang on... we must all know that this question would cause some controversy somewhere, but who cares ? Everybody is entitled to their opinion. I hold mine and you hold yours. I respect that. After all, that's democracy. All I have tried to do here is to state the facts I see them and (yes) I too lived through the period under Margaret Thatcher, and Clement Attlee, Harold Wilson, Ted Heath, Jim Callaghan, Winston Churchill. Churchill had his State Funeral in 1965 (and deservedly so) and I still believe that Margaret Thatcher deserves the same recognition. Oh, and by the way, I don't read the Daily Mail !!!
At risk of getting into another 100-post slugging match with everton...
She certainly did do something, completely f****ed up our manufacturing Industry.
See, if you look at the facts here, they were allready screwed when she came to power. And they were bringing the rest of the economy down with them. Thatcher just dealt the necessary coup de grace.
Despite the misery she undoubtedly caused, Thatcher did give a long-term benefit to the country overall. But she still doesn't deserve a state funeral because of the unavoidable misery she did nevertheless cause; also because her achievements have already been well-recognised, and because regardless of the credit she does deserve, she simply can't by any stretch be considered a Wellington or a Gladstone or a Churchill.

Well I found that ^^^ in The Guardian but I don't think there's a source.
However I found this http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4775101 .stm on the BBC from two years ago denying it.
