I don't understand this man!
GW Bush has said that 'invading a sovereign state with a democratically elected government is unacceptable in the 21st century'. So why did he invade iraq and Afghanistan, or am I missing something? If someone could explain I would be very grateful.

Iraq had a Revolutionary council who came to power through a military coup in the 1970s - They never had elections, at least as far as I can remember.
Afghanistan had the Taliban who assumed power in 1996, again without any elections. Their regime was only officially recognised by 3 countries, 2 of whom withdrew that recognition of legitimacy in 2001 or thereabouts.
I am not a fan of the Bush dynasty, but the american led invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan do not contradict his statement, whilst his strong criticism of the russion actions in South Ossetia are in line with what he said.

Everyone has to obey the fundamentals of freedom and deomocracy - unless they don't feel like it.
Don't worry, you're not missing anything, Bush really is that breathtakingly hypocritical. Pity he's over-stretched enforcing his version of 'freedom' elsewhere in the world, or he could steam into Georgia as well.
Being right all the time, it's just so busy!

Only Americans are allowed to invade any country in the world let alone troubling neighbours. I am not appreciating Russian action. But only Americans have ever invaded countries on the other side of the world. As far as democracy is concerned, It was same Sadam who was once a trusted friend of the Americans. Was he democratically elected at that time? There was no democracy in Pakistan when Bush shook hands with Musharaf (Pakistani Army General) because that is what suited American Interests then. Where in the Middle East you can see democracy, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE or Qatar but all these countries are strong allies of USA. American govt do not want democracy there just in case people like Osama Bin Laden may come in power.
USA was requested to intervene by the Arab states, for protection of Kuwait being invaded by Iraq (under Saddam).
Afganistan was being invaded by Taliban (Osama BL - leader) OBL is not Aghan be is Arab.
Nothing to do with religion all to do with territory and invaded countries requesting assistance from 'super-powers'.

Good point Terambulan, Osama Bin Laden was Arab so all Talibans became invaders. Karzai is Afghan so even allied forces have become rescuers. Very nice. Usually the countries do not call Americans for help, Americans force their help as they like being Spiderman, Batman, Superman, or so on they like saving the world.
But usually from the disasters started by themselves. In other words they create disasters so that then after saving the world they can become hero.

"The Saudi Arabians will be worried though"
no they wont , G Dubya senior did all sorts of deals with the house of Saud that would mean the good ole U S of A protecting them, so its highly unlikely that George junior is likey to cause them any problems, only some empty words of warning (whats new ?) so it looks like theyre doing something.
Read "House of Bush House of Saud" it will give you a good idea of whats really going on out there and the real causes for the invasion of Iraq and the part the Saudis play in it

O bin L is from Saudi, he warned the rulers of Saudi that if they ever let the infidels (USA) use Saudi (Arab) lands to launch attacks against Moslems he would kick off.
In the first Gulf war, where did the USA want their planes and bases ??? exactly somewhere nice and close, what better place than Saudi Arabia, enter O bin Liner.
Bin Liner had seen what the taliban had done to the Russkis, "a superpower" he had fought with the taliban in Afghanistan, so had no qualms about taking on the Yanks.
Push the clock hands forward and here we are in the mess we currently have.
Hardly a convincing victory against the muslim brothers is it ?
