What idiot gave this 70y mother IVF. The mother's comment deserves to show India up to stupidity of a nation.

So we are expected to treat all races, sexes, etc. equally without any suggestion that there is any difference between them when they do not exhibit the same tolerances - or even pretend to! I'm lost for words.
I'm not a supporter of IVF for anyone, and people like this couple are one of the reasons why. They don't seem stupid, yet they have all but destituted themselves in order to provide themselves with an heir ... to what? They've spent all their money and mortgaged their land. All the poor kid will inherit is the responsibility of feeding and marrying off his sisters.

There are thousands of homeless orphans in India. Could they not have adopted a son?
The west has not been that great with womens rights in the recent past.

Marie Curie won 2 Nobel prizes (for Chemistry and Physics).

But when she wanted to present her findings at an important scientific conference she was not allowed to because she was a woman. A man had to present on her behalf.

When Beatrix Potter wrote a scientific paper about fungi she was also banned from presenting (or even attending the event) because women were not allowed to even attend meetings.

This was only about 100 years ago so I dont think we are in any position to critisize other countries attitudes to women.
Women couldn't vote fully in the UK until 1928, and 1976 in Portugal, and 1971 Switzerland.

Women have been able to vote in India since 1950.

In a way this news story demonstrates just how modern India is - the 'I want so I shall have' culture that is prevalent in western society.

Women in their 60s have had babies in the UK, America, Italy, Germany, Romania, Spain, Austria, so this lady is being very western and modern indeed.

Females in India may not be able to inherit, but they do have rights within the family structure. India is in many ways a matriarchal society, especially in southern India.
