Do the likes of Russell Brand, do anything to foster good relations with the US?

Or should he be made to opologise?

I thought his performance was both embarrassing and bad mannered.

It's not the job of comedians to foster good relations between nations.

It's their job to make people laugh.

I don't get the appeal of Mr Brand, but humour is a very subjective thing. One man's Bernard Manning is another man's Alan Carr.

Wise words...wise words.

Unbelievably there are people on here who defend Brand. Surely he is not the kind of export we should send to the States as a representative of British humour.

Just seen the picture in aog's link (above). Brand is a total idiot; he looks unwashed, unkempt, and is definitely untalented and unworthy of being called a comedian. Not really a role model is he?

Such a pity his dad did not practice safe sex.
Oh dear . . . Alan Carr.

I better not comment.
If it was the British ambassador, you might have a point, AOG.

But he's a stand-up comedian. Try not to be quite so humourless every waking moment.

Doug Stanhope, Bill Hicks, Chris Rock, Reginald D Hunter, Sarah Silverman. All American, and all of them have taken pot shots at Britian in some form of other - at least three of them on British soil. Should we declare war now or wait until Thanksgiving?
So this offended the country that gave us "South Park"?

Right

Maybe we should ask Joan Rivers

after all she described Russel Crowe as a F***ing piece of S**t live on British TV and had to be removed from the set.

At least Brand is more articulate with his insults

Oi you lot! Please leave out nasty references to his appearance. My eldest son is a dead ringer for Russell Brand....only my boy is more handsome.
Can't stand the man(?) - and can't imagine how he could ever foster good relations with anyone. What an obnoxious low-life twerp he is! I'm with Joan Rivers here - only I don't swear!

Having said that, I don't think he should apologise. Comedians usually upset someone every time they open their mouths - whether it be mothers-in-law, or politicians - and if we go on pussyfooting around the politically correct, and expecting apologies at every turn, eventually no one will be able to say anything at all. I'm all for freedom of speech - even if I don't like what's being said.
I quite fancy Russell Brand!
BOO!!! Whatever possesses you?
Yuk B00! WHY????????????????????

(Sorry Mrs Overall. I'm sure your son's lovely).
No sense of humour those yanks
I've just spotted something hypocritcal about my response to Russell Brand.

With him, my feeling is live and live. Not my kind of humour, but if he makes other people laugh, so be it.

However, if this was Bernard Manning, I would be up on my high horse condemning and (no doubt) calling for him to be banned blah blah blah.

So I think it depends on what you think of the performer, rather than the specifics of what he or she has said in this particular instance.

If you don't like Russell Brand, you are unlikely to ever find him funny. I feel the same about Jimmy Carr, Bill Bailey and Chris Moyles...
I agree with SP apart from the fact that I love Russel BRand. I didn't see it but it made me laugh out loud reading it. I don't believe for a minute that those hosting the awards didn't know exactly what he was like. No one is forced to listen to him.
