Many years ago all claimants for Income support had to be interviewed and verify their claims, then some bright spark in Government decided that this was degrading as most people were honest.

Therefore no more interviews and very few home visits, it doesn't take long for the dishonest to realise how easy it is to defraud.

When interviewing at least 2 per week would walk out when asked to verify their claims or when I explained that a false claim got result in court action.

After stopping interviews it made it easier to out source the claims, local knowledge would highlight large families in terraced houses for a visit to check, distant offices had no ideas.

But seriously, as long as there are greedy dishonest people there will always be attempts to defraud the benefits system.

It shouldn't be tolerated and I hope the authorities take lessons from these stories with a view to tightening up their processes.

The point is, it does not matter if they are white, black, green, male, female, single, married or gay.

This government is GIVING OUR MONEY AWAY TOO EASILY.

Millions of people go out to work and lose 25% or more in tax before they even get paid.

And then the government gives this money way with almost no checks at all.

There was a TV program last week on benefit cheats where one man was claiming tax credit for 36 children!

How difficult is it to find ANYONE who is claiming for more than say 5 children and go and visit them.

It really annoys me that tax that is paid by millions of ordinairy people is given away so easily.

I have to say it has got worse since Nu Labour came in.

Must hold my hands up and admit I missed these, but I am glad to see that the so called racist Daily Mail, spotted 3 out of 4 of them.

But having said that I do think that my example is more unusual and therefore more newsworthy.

Taking into account that the three exposed by Oneeyedvic and sp1814 only diddled �148,000 between the three of them, yet our friend from Nigeria got away with a cool millon, oh and there was that small matter of her little Daughters 3 lost fingers.

Must confess, I did miss the fact that it was (almost) �1 Million. I saw the poster, saw the link, saw benefit cheat, and saw a black woman and put two and two together to make 5 - apologies.

Yes, I agree that it is more unusual than normal.

HM Revenue and Customs said later: 'We have put in place vigorous strategies to identify, combat and prevent fraud.

'In 2006-07, HRMC identified organised attacks of �252million. Of this, some �212million was stopped before any money was paid.'

So in 2006-07 �40 Million has been identified as fraudulent - and I am pretty sure that a lot more was involved that was not identified.

A CHEATING pensioner who ran a massive benefit fraud from behind her wardrobe was jailed for five years yesterday.
Jean Hutchinson, 65, pocketed at least �1.8million in a ten-year scam organised from a tiny hidden room.

Hutchinson, of Maida Vale, North West London, scoured newspapers for details of people who emigrated to steal their ID.

The mis-management (so understated) of our benefits system is appaling! In 'benefits' I'm including tax credits, CSA payments and the various direct benefits people get when they aren't working.

Too much (hah! again an understatement!) is paid to people who shouldn't have it and too little is paid to those who should!

They ought to get the people who enforce the TV licences or road tax to manage the benefits system. They don't miss a trick and seem to be able to stay on tope of everyone. But then that's revenue generation isn't it!

Problem is that when they do try and get strict with this people accuse them of being worse than nazis (heavens forbid they might want to have a look in your house!).
