Surely this could have also been construed as 'false imprisonment' just as in this case?

There's tons of difference. In the first case, the landowner merely built on land but didn't physically attack anybody. In the second case, the boss physically attacked and bound the employee.
Goodness Old Git if I wanted to read the drivel in the Daily Mail I'd simply go to their website.
