If they plead guilty, and this's accepted, then they face the death sentence, so obviously if this happened, they'd be seen as martyrs in the eyes of their followers. However, Mr. Mohammed later retracted this, and said he wants all the men to stand together and be judged - probably hoping that a verdict won't be reached, and they'll just receive a life behind bars sentence. Whatever happens, they'll be seen as martyrs by other terrorists. Just pleading guilty'd make them look that way. It'd be best if no media coverage was given to these men, but it won't happen.
I'll ask you respectfully Terambulan, how much have you researched this subject? How much have you read or seen that is outside the mainstream media?
I've been looking into this subject for 5 years, watch this as a start. If you have an open mind.

No, I do see what you're saying, but I'm not sure as I agree with it. I think it's one of those things which's caused whispers and a multitude of theories - like the farce of the moon landing, the death of Princess Diana and other tragedies which we'll never really get to the bottom of, etc., etc. Difficult to pin down any one person or group for the 9/11 one, but whoever caused it, should pay dearly, be it a public figure or a bunch of people who like living in caves.
dabees...WADR - I actually watched the events on tv the day it happened. That's good enough evidence for me. I saw Bush' face and horror at the time. Bush took a while before he retaliated. The first on TV was a bearded arab OBL claiming responsibility and the world news recorded the glee of the arabs at the sight of the disaster.....they yallowed their shrill cheers at people jumping from the towers to save their lives.....animals? no, inhuman - Yes!

These men are smart enough to know they will never see light of day again. They also know that the Military Court and Guantanamo prison are a stain on the US international character and are not seen as legitimate in many countries in the world. These men have been using this for their advantage in a propaganda battle. The Bush administration wanted a trial so that the world could see the damning statements and admissions these men have made. By pleading guilty, they have denied the Americans of a show trial.
The timing is significant. Obama has said he will close Guantanamo and the trials there, and have future trials in legitimate US courts in America. Letting justice seen to be done. This would mean that these mens martyrdom would be seriously hampered if they had a fair trial and the world saw the evidence against them.
So they have pleaded guilty. Stopped themselves having a fair trial. Half the world believe they were tortured, and they are well on the way to being martyrs.

Yes Gromit I think you have hit the nail on the head. They want to be martyrs but when Guantanamo is closed and if they were tried in the USA their evil would emerge and be looked at in a different light. Guantanamo is illegal and if tried there then their crimes may look less gruesome especially as they were tortured there..
