If one did not wish this to happen, then a way round this could be a clause on the donor card, stating that the organ or organs should only go to a British NHS patient.

However Splat is now thought of as the meanie chairman (with a feather boa obviously).
But back to the point...Yes, some faith groups would certainly be against it but it'd be up to them to opt out as individuals. I'm pretty sure that some countries already have this sort of system in place and I just believe that it could be so benneficial to bring it in over here. That and mandatory blood donation if a patient is fit and healthy... But I'm showing signs of the dictator beneath now.

i think it is reasonable to assume that:

NO! What I have stated in the past is that British tax payers who have paid into the system for the benefit of certain resources, should be given first preference, over that of others not vice versa.
I am a firm believer in the saying "charity begins at home"

After reading the ignorant comments on the daily mail website, I have to say 'The Sherman' has made my day! How nice to read some sense on this issue and written very wittily.
Mrs Overall I sympathise as my sister spent two years on the waiting list for transplant. However, my experience has made me more sympathetic to the foreigners getting transplants, they are just as ill as the people here and they too will die without transplant.
I understand it's hard to feel your case might not be priority, I really hope your sister gets her transplant.
I think some people (most of them daily mail readers) are being incredibly callous over the matter of human life, I don't see how what country you come from should affect your right to medical treatment and to life.
I think what this article should be highlighting is the ridiculous shortage of organs and the fact those statistics prove there is also a shortage in the countries mentioned. We should be working with those countries on how to boost organ donation rates and encourage sign ups, not being petty and complaining about people trying to obtaina life saving procedure.

It's not a case of bending the question, there are a lot of circumstances regarding organ donation, doctors don;t just go around throwing organs to people. You need to be an exact match in a lot of characteristics including blood type, tissue type, size etc. This means there are not as many people as you might think that are competing for each organ.
If you are on the list of course you want a transplant before anyone else but there will always be people competing with you for organs, whether they are english or not is irrelevant. That is why there is a priority list, the most ill get called first which is why that is a ridiculous question. If they only had day/weeks to live and I had months then yes they should get the organ, if the opposite I should.
