This has probably been asked before, but I'm fairly new to AB. Is it worth making a special journey of 10 miles to fill up when the price difference is 87p versus 82p?

Only if you fill your tank up and not the usual woman fill-up of 5
Depends how big and how empty your tank is, and how many miles to the gallon your car does.
how many litres does yopu car hold and what mpg do you get out of it?
on average though you would save around 2 pounds in the price of petrol. but you would use 2/3 of a gallon to get there so my answer is:

No dont be so silly :)

Hoy Elvis. I always fill it up!! It's a Jag X type and usually @ 90p per litre costs 45.00. I have been known to put my foot down.
well with the high mpg like that you would actually end up losing out on money if you did that lol

It was new with an 04 Reg. I could have worked it out when we had gallons, but litres floor me.
What were those ****** for knobbsworth????
Are you just trying to tell people you have a Jag chrissa1? yawn.
Question Author
What on earth would I do that for trt????? It is a genuine question whether I have a Jag or a 2CV. I was asked what sort of car I had if you took the time to read some of the answers.
Question Author
Sorry. I was asked how big my car was by ethel!!!!!
Ball park figure, average size car and tank, round trip of 10 miles. You would save about 2 on a tank but it would cost you 1.50 to get there and back. It can be worthwhile if filling at a Tesco or Sainsbury if they have a 5p a litre off when spending 50 in store. Stop the checkout when it reaches 50 and you can get two vouchers!.
Why don't you get your butler to do it....then you will save yourself nearly an hour of precious time....! .....LOL
I didn't ask how big your car was - I asked how big is the tank.

If you can afford to drive a Jag why are you trying to penny pinch on the cost of the fuel?
Seriously Chrissa.... XJ does an average 20 mpg.
10 mile trip = 1/2 gallon
1/2 gallon = approx 2.27ltr.
2.27ltr. @ 82p per ltr. = fuel for trip = 1.86

If you go for the man fill up ... say 50 ltr.
You will be saving 50 x 5p = 2.50
Against you cost for the trip 1.86
............= saving of 0.64

But I'm afraid these figures are based on the fuel cost/ savings only....not your running costs or time involved.

Stop at home ... keep your butler company....!

I don't know where to start answering the snide comments about the car I drive. We still haven't paid it off fully yet and probably would get peanuts for it if we sold it.

It is NOT an XJ but an X Type and we are struggling with all the costs of living just like everyone else at the moment.
Just thought I'd get some helpful answers. Thank you alvahalf for your stats, apart from the snide comment at the end. Ethel, how am I meant to know what the size of the tank is?
I naively thought that be telling you all what sort of car it was, all would be able to have an idea of size. I'll think before I ask questions in the future. THANKS. Yeah Right!
Hi Chrissa...please accept my apology if I have offended you in any way....did'nt intend to do so.
I was only feeding the thread. As the tale unwinds everybody will read it differently.
It's just a forum, where ...like minded or not ...people from all walks of life, may or may not air their views.
When people view your question they don't all see it the same way.....some might see it as a mathematical equation and get their calculator out. Others may think ....I can't believe what I am reading.

Keep asking questions otherwise we don't have a forum.
Personally I think it's the best way to get advice about most things.....and then only you can decide once you've viewed other peoples thoughts on the matter.

After this reply some ...may think....has'nt he got anything better to do on a Saturday afternoon...
To tell you the truth I am waiting on paint to dry...I'm between coats.
Once agin sorry..!

Ha Ha. Cheers.
you should buy your fuel in passing rather than making a special trip
