Is there a website which gives SIMPLE, easy to understand, current political affairs (conflicts etc.)? I have started a new job and need to gen up on the subject but find it hard to get my head round the subject. I would like to know who's at war with whom, why and what the way forward is?

I would suggest reading one of the "quality" newspapers like the Telegraph, Times, Independant or Guardian.

These papers have "proper" journalists (unlike the Sun or Mirror) and have full length articles where world events can be explained and discussed.

These papers do also have web sites so you could try looking at them.
Whenever there's a major current affairs event, the websites of BBC News and the Times do a Q&A, which explains the situation in simple terms. Very useful.
For example, look on the right hand side of this page for background and Q&As on Afghanistan.

this might not be what you are looking for but if there is something on the news I am not too clear about I go to the BBC site and go to Newsround. Their site is basically explaining the news so children understand it so I find that helps me.
Stick with the news section here. I find AOG a mine of information about what's happening at home and abroad. He manages to explain complicated government policies in a simple and easy to understand manner. He's well respected for his fair and balanced views and in depth analysis. Watch out for his insight on world events, you can't go wrong.
Gourmander !!!!!
If you are so ignorant of current affairs and it is obviously important for your job, how did you get the job in the first place?
Are you an MP? Are you after Jackie Smith's job?
