Simple question. Do you agree that the girl who threw green custard in the face of Mandleson was:-
1. Right to do it.
2. Has the 'right' to do it.
3. Should just be allowed to walk away.
4. Do it to anyone she wants.

My point here is this. Regardless of the rights or wrongs of this incident, should we think it is acceptable? Think of your favourite pop star, favourite Royal, best friend, Grandmother, daughter or senior citizen or whatever - is it ok to throw slime in their faces?

In principle I think it is not on. Love him or loathe him that is degrading. Remember think of someone you admire and maybe others do not. That's the point.

i think it was completely out of order and that she should be shot.
Personally I would say a resounding 'No' to all four questions above... it is assault and she should be arrested, charged, and hauled in front of the Beak.
Paul22118.....we have done this topic to death.
Mandy Mandelson

This is not a pop at you Paul but on the topic itself in the news....

In light of recent news and atrocities this is just to trivial in comparison.

In laymans term, I couldnt care less about the green custard. Its hardly important and in all honesty do the reporters think we really care? I surely dont.
Answer NO to all the above. She could have threw anything at him and I hope she gets charged with assault.
Just trying to weigh this up ...

Person 1

Given public office on an "anti sleaze" ticket

Leaves in disgrace after appalling financial irregularities

Somehow get back to public office

Makes a stack of cash

Leaves again after further financial disgrace is exposed

Gets a peerage from his old bum chum (why ???)

Gets back into office yet again

Lets chum down again, and resigns again

And then ...

Comes back like a proverbial sodding phoenix ...

... big salary, etc, and lo and behold ...

... is recently linked with even more financial irregularities.

Person 2

Throws some custard (messy, but harmless) at him

Erm ...

Who is the bad guy ?

Nothing at all to do with Mandelson.
Crikey !
He may all those JJ things but it's still no excuse for someone to behave in this fashion .It's a matter of public order.
Next thing you know every little tyke will jump on the bandwagon and think it's perfectly acceptable to behave like this .
"Oh .... my neighbour is a pain in the butt I'll go and bombard him with custard " ...where do you draw the line ?
We live in a democracy and things should be argued by debate not custard throwing .
Can you imagine GB and DC throwing custard pies at each other across the House of Commons .
It was a childish and silly thing to do and she should be reprimanded .
Its plain criminal assault! What if he's to go ahead with the third runway in spite of this. Will the contents me more sinister next time?
If he had hit back physically, a la Prescott, would he have been wrong?
Personally I think he would have been entirely justified, as was Prescott. That doesn't detract from the fact that I loathe the pair of them!
We are straying, but no, he would not have been justified in retaliating unless he further feared for his safety.

It seemed his assailant, having run out of green slime, turned and walked away, so he would have difficulty showing that he further feared for his safety.
Following an assault, how long does one have to wait around to be sure that there is no further danger?
NO to all the questions if it had been Anyone Else.

BUT Im sure in LORD MANDYs case everybody should be giving an unqualified YES to the first three ! There is always an exception to the rule and he did have it coming !
Simple question. Do you agree that the girl who threw green custard in the face of Mandleson was:-
1. Right to do it. -PERSONALLY I WOULD'VE WENT WITH PURPLE SEMOLINA INSTEAD.
2. Has the 'right' to do it. -MAYBE SHE JUST WANTED TO BRIGHTEN UP HIS BORING SUIT?
3. Should just be allowed to walk away. I WOULD'VE BEEN MORE HAPPY IF SHE WAS CHASED OFF BY THE KEYSTONE COPS WITH "BENNY HILL" MUSIC PLAYING!
4. Do it to anyone she wants. -YES IF SHE GETS A JOB AS A CIRCUS CLOWN!
Well... given that the present Labour government have basically removed any reasonable means of protest and have been shown not to listen to the electorate when they do protest on mass I can't see what other options were left to her.

But in direct answer

1. No
2. No
3. No
4. No
