R1Geezer.....quite interesting. I have no objections to Irish living in England and paying their taxe....indeed I have a soft spot for the Irish..BUT does this mean that 93,000 is going to Irish Gypsies?
What about the 125,000 to the Football Foundation. Why does the Football Foundation need charity donations when the clubs pay their players that each for one game!
Geezer, your question wasn't inspired by this story in last weeks Motorcycle News by any chance?
Not at all Gromit, was not aware of it, I only occasionally buy MCN.
I agree that the footballsfoundation should be funded by the FA but that's irrelevant. I don't think money donated in good faith should be given to those who are essentially parasites. I wouldn't mind them so much if they behaved like humans.
On the link you provided it showed that an organisation called CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) are also getting a large wodge of cash. Who are these people?
I've had to wait in for 3 days for a delivery and I'm very miserable about it. Do you think I'd qualify for a grant??
I don't donate to Comic Relief as I don't agree with a lot of the causes they support....including Irish Travellers
Are the slur of racist, do I detect a Blairite amongst us?
If my memory serves me well thats what our good lefty chums shouted whenever they didnt or couldnt justify something.
It is not racist to discuss FACT.
I never contribute to any of these big causes. Personally I tnd to focus on small local charities who cannot affors big publicity and need help. I can also see exactly where my money goes.
Unfortunaltly since Bottler saw fit to tax me to the hilt as he knows better where to spend my money (bailing his banking chums out of debt with large obscene payoffs) my chartible donations have had to take a large hit. Lets all here it for Bottler the champoin of the people -not.
l always used to support Comic Relief with 25 or 50. About 4 years ago, I received a small inheritance from my uncle and on that Comic Relief I donated 600. It was so moving seeing how they laid water pipes to a village where the people had had to trek miles to collect water each day and could now just turn on a tap. Also there was an elderly man living in what would be a garden shed to us. He slept on the ground and used to get wet. The DIY SOS team laid a concrete floor for him and gave him a raised bed. It made you want to donate when you saw these film clips and realized how your money could help.
A few months later, I read in the papers that 200,000 had been given so that gay people could meet other gay people. What was that about? Surely there are enough gay pubs and clubs around that fulfil that function. I am not homophobic but was so disgusted by this waste of money - this was not why I had donated - that I made a vow never to support Comic Relief again. I know that the money doesn't just go to projects in Africa but there had to be more worthwhile projects to spend 200,000 on.
I see that the Bipolar organisation is being paid only slightly more than the Irish travellers.
I suffer from Bipolar disorder and I am sure that there are many more people affected by this illness than there are Irish travellers. If it was paid per head of the people who will benefit it would seem less unfair.
I know that the above probably is muddled - but my brain is muddled just now and the letters keep moving.
'......you'll see we are now funding Irish travellers to the tune of 93k. Low life thieving scum deserve no help from us' in original post
&
Goodsoulette - 'Because ALL Irish travellers are thieving scum. Hitler didn't like gypsies either. '
Sounds racist to me , or is it OK to insult the Irish ?
I'm pretty sure that Goodsoulette was pointing out the racism in the OP, HillyHugger.
That said, whilst I don't believe that all Irish Travellers are "llts", I have no sympathy for people who try to cling on to an outmoded lifestyle (travelling) whilst enjoying the fruits of the present (benefits, quad bikes). Why don't thatchers or dry stone wall builders (for instance) get special treatment?
