such a nauseating show as when Lord of the Gorbals ,Michael Martin, entered the Commons today, they fawned all over him, heaping praise upon his head, his claim to fame being the first speaker in 300 yrs to fall on his sword, the sycophantic display was a joke,

And they call each other 'honourable'!
That about sums up the Government, two faced ********.
I never really took to Speaker Martin. He seemed to lack authority and had a tendency to show bias which is a big no no in the job. I'm quite pleased he has gone and we can only hope the House choose a more suitable Speaker next time around.

me too julnar, I am not really a big Ann Widdercombe fan, but I don't hink she'd put up with any garbage, what do you think?
another favourite of mine would be Vince Cable but he shows no interest in the job.
I think Anne Widdicombe would be an interesting choice, but could she be subtle enough when telling off MP's who step out of line.
Question Author
she would likely shout at them and they would retreat into their shoulders, so in that case, yes !
The lady in question was discussed here , recently -

Joy...many...perhaps the majority of the House of Commons thought that he had done a good job.

Ann Widdicombe?....naaaah! she would play to the gallery too much for me.

Frank Field....ideal.
I would say Anne Widdicombe followed by Vince Cable or Frank Ifield - I remember him.
It doesn't really matter what any of us think it will be the sole choice of the sitting members of parliament to decide and they will make that choice on Monday I believe.
Bobbisox:

Why do you refer to the man as "Lord of the Gorbals"?
Please explain.
Thanks.
Question Author

Get a room, you two
salla....very few would get the Frank Ifield remark.......I did LOL
Australian wasn't he?
Ive not heard or seen Speaker Martin referred to as "Lord of The Gorbals" He was called "Gorbals Mick" by an ignorant Dail Mail columnist who-along with others it seems- obviously thinks Glasgow and the Gorbals are one and the same.
TCL....would that be the DM columnist who has just won political journalist of the year?
Question Author
Lord of the Gorbals , Gorbals Mick, it doesn't really matter with a play on words does it TCL?
He was more concerned about hiding the now infamous expenses, they got rid of him and now they are all over him like a rash and he will receive a golden handshake and a peerage for what? this was really the point of this post, not what he gets called.
Howdy Joy! Nice to see you doll.

Sorry, nothing to contribute to the thread, just wanted to say Hello. xxx

Oh Joy, sorry to go off topic - I remember once seeing that you make your own greetings cards. Do you have one of those eazi score boards? Do you like it? I am thinking about getting one.

Apoligies, this shouldn't be in News.
