'I'm happy to live in a multi-cultural society. I'm happy to live in a society where we welcome those coming to live and work in this country,
'I'm happy', 'I'm happy' 'We welcome'
Once again a politician speaking personally, regardless of their electorates wishes or concerns.
MigrationWatch director Sir Andrew Green said:
'Here is a new Home Secretary immediately riding roughshod over public opinion that is hugely opposed to the mass immigration which this Government is encouraging.
'For a start, how is a government that is broke going to pay for all the houses, schools and hospitals that an extra seven million immigrants will need in the next 20 years?'
Thank goodness Alan Johnson or his Labour Party won't be in power after next year and then for at least the next 20 years, to enable their destruction of this country to come to fruition.

The Conservatives (the only other party realistically likely to form the next government) are as enthusiastic towards immigration as the Labour Party is. For some strange reason neither of the two major parties (nor a number of the lesser concerns) will canvass their constituents to gain their views on this matter as I am sure they would receive an answer they may not like. Even if they did, they would not act according to the electorate's wishes.
Couple this with the fact that migration from EU countries cannot be restricted (unless we leave the EU unlikely in the extreme).
I personally want to see no further immigration allowed to the UK. We do not need the labour (highest ever increase in unemployment announced today) and we do not have the infrastructure or resources to cope with the numbers envisaged.
But it looks like were stuck with it.

I am no fan of the Labour party but I cannot see them out in the wilderness for 20 years.
David Cameron also strikes me as just a Blair clone, but Osborne is no intellectual to counter that. The pair would be equally as disastrous.
As New Judge says, don't get your expectations up AOG as you will surely be disappointed.

Currently there are 4 working people for every retired person
In 40 years time that ratio will be 2:1
I'd be interested to hear what your alternative to correct this is
Quoted for truth. Very important point on the immigration issue.
A recent estimate published in The Economist a few weeks ago estimated that the aging population across the Western world will be 10 times that of the recession. The USA, for one, has been successful at allaying this in part due to its consistent ability to welcome newcomers.

Surely we have to manage this with the people we already have in the country.
Beause if we dont then we KEEP having to let immigrants in forever (because the CURRENT immmigrants will get old so we have to let more people in to support them and so it goes on forever.)
It is like some giant pyramid selling scam.
We let in 4 million immigrants
They get old so bring in 8 million to support them.
They get old so bring in 16 million to support them.
It CANT go on like that.

Maybe if the scum that come here were not able to commit massive benefit fraud we would have more money to pay for the old people.
This person claimed 90,000 in benefits for someone who was not even living in the UK but living in India.

I hate it when this government give our money away without seeming to care who it goes to.
How many hard up people had to pay tax on their earnings so this piece of scum could get all those illegal benefits.

And the tories estimate that unemployment could cost this country 11 BILLION POUNDS a year in 2010 and 2011.
So maybe we start by getting more lazy people of their backsides and into work, that will reduce goverment payouts and help pay for the elderly.
And dont say there is no work. There is PLENTY of work, but lazy English people on benefits dont need to get out of bed if they dont want to.

>There is PLENTY of work,
As I said the other day, my local Sainsburys car park is full of immigrants (Iraqis etc) cleaning cars at 5 a go.
Do tw ocars in an hour and that is more than many people earn in their low paid jobs per hour.
But how many British people would do that?
Very few, they just sit in the pub moaning that there is no work.
At least immigrants start up their own businesses, most UK people cannot be bothered, they just live on their state hand outs.

Exactly, Elvis.
Those who say they are happy to live in such a melting pot usually live in the Cotswolds.
VHG is quite right, .jake, your contention is logically flawed as the immigrants get old too. There is no reason why the situation you describe would be cured (if it needs such a cure) by mass immigration. Another way needs to be found such as arranging for people to fund their own retirement by saving during their working years.
Of course those not working need not fret - they move seamlessly from unemployment benefit to full state pension.

Just to say that in my Tescos there are people cleaning cars. It is a franchise type operation (which I assume is the same in your lcoal Sainsburys) and the supermarkets charge them a rent. The average cost for a wash is 5-6.
Amazingly this takes about 10 minutes - ie 6 cars an hour - getting an income of 30-40 per hour which is (if you said there were 3 people on each job) 10-12 per hour. Take off your expenses and you will still be earning more than the minimum wage.
Still, it is cold, thankless work that people don't want to do.
If you went to outside the benefits office and asked the claimants if they would like to earn minimum wage cleaning cars, what do you think the answer will be?
p.s. google the Look East report which had a reporter standing outside the benefit office asking people as they came out if they would like a job picking vegetables in Peterborough (you know the people who always complain that immigrants steal their jobs, but are happy to sit at home and let the state pay for their daytime tv subscription.)
With regards your 'pyramid scam'. also remember that a lot of immigrants go back to their home country to retire - and so are no longer a burden to us.
