As the reasons for going to war in Iraq are essentialy down to one person ie Blair would more be gained by getting him to stand trial at the Haque? A court of law presumes innocence so he may be aquitted.

Can anything useful be gained by having the enquiry here?

Can anything 'useful' be gained by having the enquiry........full stop ?!?
You are forgetting that the final decision was Parliaments and that the Conservatives and other parties gave it their full backing.

The vote was 412 in favour of war with Iraq and 149 against. 139 of those against were Labour rebels.

You are pre-judging that the enquiry will blame Blair solely.

Usual anti war retoric ?

This will acheive nothing apart from wasting millions we dont have.

If this inquiry is properly carried out and not just another whitewash, perhaps the nation will be able to find out, if Blair managed to fool Parliament with the weapons of mass destruction excuse. We may also find out the reason Dr Kelly committed suicide.

I personally do not expect the outcome from this inquiry to be any different to all those that went before, but at least I hope enough information comes out of it, so as to satisfy the families of all those troops who fell in Iraq, if it was indeed necessary for their loved ones to lay down their lives over this venture, and so that they can finally put closure to this matter.

Can someone tell me what they are enquiring about? FFS what is not know already? These enquiries always conclude it's no body's fault anyway.

As I have said before, Bush wanted to sort out nasty man, Blair clings to US coat tails, makes up some bull about WMD's to get backing, Nasty man out, no WMD's found, the end. what's to enquire about?

Clearly the man appointed to conduct the enquiry is not up to the job.

I know that government personnel regularly read my posts on this site and offer my services with the following terms of reference (which Im sure would be agreeable to all):-

1. The enquiry must be held in secret there are some things that are beyond the comprehension of the general public.
2. Tony Blair will not be called as a witness he is far too busy on speaking tours and organising publication of his memoirs to be bothered with a trivial matter, such as being responsible for the death of many thousands.
3. That mad woman (Clare Short) will not be permitted to give evidence (for obvious reasons).
4. The enquiries findings will be completely open and fair; being handed to me in a plain brown envelope along with several million quid.

err thats it.

These inquiries always start the same way. We are determined to find the truth and no holds barred they say. But come later comes the whitewash as we have seen in the past 4 enquiries. If you belong to a special club as most of them are they obey their own rules and put in there place by a hierarchial system. For instance a mason would not renegade on another. As Blair must be high up in the pecking order who would crucify him.

If he has done wrong his accusers must be the ones putting the questions in a court of law. You wouldn't expect Bin Laden to be interrogated by a member of al qaeda.
