Who does this sexist woman think she is?
If a Man was to make a comment such as this he would swiftly be relieved of his post.
Brown should sack her straight away.

Ice Maiden...the "Government" is made up of make AND female and our money is being mismanaged by BOTH sexes, that is if one believes that it is being mismanaged.
Expenses row?....women just as bad as the men and that is if you count the Opposition Parties as well.

I believe in equal opportunities and I also believe that local political parties are probably to some degree sexist or have outdated opinions about a woman's place.
I therefore dislike discrimination, which means I cannot support so called 'positive' discrimination.
I don't know how you change people's attitudes quickly, but I do know that promoting someone to a position of PM or deputy PM because they are of a female gender, is not the right way to bring equality.
Instead of all female candidates lists for parliamentary seats, I would prefer that they should be 50/50, but also that the selection committees should also be 50/50. Then, if a man or a woman won, at least it would be fair and the best person would be chosen.
I find ms Harman's thinking extremely wooly and counter to what she is supposedly trying to achieve.

Noo labour showing their colors.
We need to stop the us and them in all walks of life.
For the record I have always addressed, with some sucess, where I have found sex discimination. But, people like this 'woman' do not help people like me that try to chaneg things, in fact the stupid bitch hinders and drives a bigger wedge.
But what else would I expect from noo labour. Bunch of t*ssers

IceMaiden - Do not mention Harman and bloomers in the same sentence - not a nice image that is conjured up :)
As a country, we lag behind such beacons of gender equality as Rwanda, Mozambique, Spain - In fact we come 40th in the world rankings or thereabouts. Only 1 in 5 MPs are women, from a natural constituency in the population as a whole of 50%.
This sort of comment by Hatty Harperson will not help advance the cause of gender equality though- precisely the opposite, I would have thought.
Nor will the other gender - equalising innovation Labour made, that of women - only MP selection lists favour equality, except in the short term - because those women elected through such schemes are often going to face resentment from their own local party workers, as well as having to contend with a more generalised view that they would not have got the post on merit.
Damn, not often I find myself in agreement with AOG... damn...

It's not very hard to do you know, you should try to more often, I only hope it was not too stressful.
I'm not a bad chap really.
Thanks to everyone else that answered this question, it made for interesting reading.
I didn't realise so many disliked Ms Harman, I hope I don't sound too patronising when I say this but it was like a breath of fresh air for her to get the most criticism from her own sex.
