I thought England was a very tolerant country, but Scotland now seems to be the most tolerant country on earth. They even issue their national flag out, for the photo shoot of his homecoming.

You can't release someone because of a vague feeling he might be innocent any more than you can lock someone up because of a vague feeling he might be guilty.
Neither should the fact he's dying have any bearing on it.
Whatever the real reasons behind this, it's a bad decision which will only cause more suffering to the victims, as if they haven't had enough crap to suffer already.

Apart from the rights or wrongs of the release .
Isn't it interesting that a lot of people ( many on ths site ) have argued that the UK government is always soft , in capitulating to American ' requests '
Now , that we have not agreed to this request from the americans , the same people are up in arms .

I noticed the saltire in Libia too.Compasion? where was his when nearly 300 died? If convicted you should serve your sentance. Life meaning life and such. It's iffey to me with the fact that he didn't look dying just after release and it's such a coincidence because Biggs was out on compassionate grounds and took a turn for the better after release. Am I harsh? i also think in prison no radio, tv or 'luxury' prison should be a punishment, thats why im in law, punish those that do wrong.
He was sent back to avoid having his appeal which would have revealed some very embarrassing stuff which MI5 would rather have kept out of the public domain.
It would have revealed that other Governments were involved in the Lockerie bombing and that the British government turned a blind eye.
A lot of the bereaved families have been eagerly anticipating the appeal because they want the truth about what happened to their dead relatives. They do not believe the official account and think Megrahi conviction was unsafe. They have now been denied that.
Dr Jim Swire, who;s daughter was killed has long campaigned for the truth to be told. He does not believe Megrahi killed his daughter, and can see little is gained from a innocent man rotting in a Scottish gaol.
