My (Italian) husband is watching the Italian tv which has extensive coverage of the return of the six soldiers, killed in Afghanistan. As you probably heard on the news they are having a day of mourning and a minutes silence in their honour. Makes me feel we dont do very much for our soldiers who return from Afghanistan in coffins. All such a waste of life. I think the Italians will have the sense to get out before we do somehow.

If this needs to be a question buildersmate, I question why we are allowing so many lives to be thrown away in an unwinnable "war" on the taliban. I also question why we do not give the returning soldiers as much honour as other countries do.
The 6 deaths represent a 75% increase (up to 14 from 8) in Italian fatalities due to hostile action in Afghanistan. The equivalent total for UK fatalities is 188.

It probably would be easier for Italy to "get out" before the UK for the simple fact that they are "less in" - 3000 troops compared to 9000.

Nu Labour honour the returning soldiers? The PM (both Brown and Blair) could not even bring themselves to publicly announce and pay tribute to the troops in a timely fashion upon hearing of their deaths. They both opt to wait until the opening minutes of PMQs each Wednesday noon in Parliament to make such an announcement. What are the odds of an appearance by these luminaries in Wootton Basset?
I believe Italy is looking at a "transition strategy" for pulling out its troops right now.

Cab't say I blame them.

Why bother to explain yourself to such a person as buildersmate, he spends his time just hanging around to spot if anyone in his opinion happens to make a mistake.

He is a very sad individual who cannot make any other constructive involvement, unless it is to criticise other ABers.

Feeling persecuted are we?

If you were to venture out of News more often you would find much constructive involvement by buildersmate and predominantly based on fact rather than opinion which appears to be your stock in trade.
