bin strike in leeds

im fed up now, the whole streets stinks, 7 weeks and our bins still havent been emptied =(
according to the YEP paper it says strike maybe over, but they said that couple weeks ago
anyone else effected??

hi pus, i live not far from Headingley :-)

the council are cutting their salary by a third! they were saying that people who are on £18k will be cut to £12k !!!!!!!

pus, i do support the binmen/women but no matter what happens the council should really sort this out. we received a letter 5 weeks ago about the strike and that they have employed private contractors to empty the rubbish, advising us to take the bins out as normal and bring the bins back in (if not emptied) to avoid obstructing the street. but its the 7th week and no one has come round to empty our rubbish, we all have given up and just left it on the street, no way we're gonna bring back over flowing bins and additional bags back to the yard!

Not since the Victorian age have employers been able to coerce employees into work.
Surely the wrong sentiments are being expressed here - more like 'go and dump the rubbish on the steps of a bin-worker'.
It's the bin-men that have stopped work, you know, they are in breach of their employment contracts for doing so. The only remedy the council has to break the strike is by employing outside contractors clear the streets from a public hygiene situation.
Or maybe Whitebears is happy to have his/her Council tax increased to pay for salary enhancement for these people?

This is disgusting. I really feel for you! I would demand a refund for some of my council tax - seeing as the service is not being provided!!!

WHy should the dustmen get a 30% pay cut - when all those lazy sacks in the council offices are guaranteed their lovely little pensions - for a life of doing precious little hard work!

I am a Leeds resident and in my area ( a basic working class area) we have always enjoyed a good collection service so my sympathies are well and truly with the collection staff.
Of all the council staff why are only the refuse collectors singled out for a pay cut ?
We should obtain all the names of the council members involved and encourage people to make sure they are never elected again.

well just heard that the union and council have not come to an agreement so the STRIKE is back on! ffs! =(
