It is things like this that make me hate the EU (not just the shower, but the 160 million pounds France spent during the 6 months of their presidency).
It is one big ego trip and gravy train for the politicians, and makes the money claimed by our MPs for expenses seem like chicken feed.
Look, the Czech court will pronounce on the Lisbon treaty next week and the chances are it'll all go through.
So the foamingly Euroskeptic press will be cobbling together every anti-EU story they can get their little paws on.
We've had the EU income tax and Blair for Pesident and this and before long I'm expecting the European army, the Metric Martyrs and the Ghost of Elizabeth the 1st.
If you are going to let Murdoch and his chums tell you what to think - more fool you!
uyou urophiles make me puke jakr. You are so blinded by your own blinkered beliefs it is incredible. You would argue black is whie but then a pinko like u would easily spin that eh?
government spending in a recession is no bad thing (especially as individuals will probably be saving rather than spending). Remember, this is French government spending, not EU spending, so it doesn't come out of your pocket. It seems to be mostly a result of Sarkozy's profligacy - £250,000 on a personal presidential shower he never used.
hm, I see the headline of the Telegraph link says EU taxpayers did have to pay. I've hunted through other reports and I can't find any other mention of this. I think it's just French government expenditure, that's why the senate finance committee is complaining.
