Well he seems to be nailed on at the moment and I can't find anything about any alternatives at the moment. Anyway being British I should be delighted that Tony is the front runner, so why do I find myself so anti? I can't really explain it, I just have the instinctive repellance, id' rather have Neil Kinnock FFS! Anyone else have this innexplicable, "allergic reaction" to Blair?

somebody suggested Mary Robinson. She'd be good, a much better record in office than Blair and generally more inspiring. The idea of Blair popping out from Bush's rectum to announce that he's now committed to Europe doesn't fill me with glee.

Blair's part in the invasion of Iraq means he is responsible for many more deaths than any tinpot Balkan leader.

Smarmy enough man but will he have Europe at heart. He was given a job by Bush to bring France, Germany and Russia onside to vote for the 2nd resolution at the UN. He failed miserably and in fact these 3 teamed up to oppose the Iraq war.

I suppose Obama will think that Blair can be a conduit between the US and Europe and bind it as he has binded the UK with the US. Unfortunately again this will not work. The European countries will still seek independence for the US so all Blair will do is cause discontent.

The ideal person for the job is Jose Borosso (same country as the special one) who has proved his negotiating skills and will put Europe first.

The latest news is that the Blair campaign is dying on it's arse. Gordon Brown stuck the knife in by giving him his whole hearted support. Crucially no-one else (outside of the UK) is speaking up to say it would be a good idea.

If he doesn't get the Presidency he can concentrate all his efforts on bringing peace to the Middle East. How's that going, by the way?

That's not quite true Ludwig there have been some supporters but the crucial thing is that he's not getting support from the left of centre groups and being a labour politician himself his support from the right is limited.

I wouldn't right him off yet but as I said earlier there are plenty of things against him.

I do confidently predict though that if he doesn't get the job the Sun will claim the credit!

I agree with you Ludwig. No sooner does Gordon Brown say B Liar is the man for the job than his prospects of being EU El Presidente hit the buffers.

It is typical of Brown being Chancellor and PM, everything he touches goes pear shaped.
