Right to be offended?

Has this black couple a right to be offended?
There I have also used the word black to describe the couple also, am I wrong?
Perhaps I should have described them as a person in a white checked shirt accompanied by a person with a white striped coat with a red scarf?
But then I can't get all this on the receipt, what then? Dare I suggest their gender?
Had I been a white customer in a black bar, I wonder how I would have been described, perhaps that miserable old white git sitting in the corner maybe?
But no they can't say that, that is both racist and ageist. How many points for a double whammy?

Just leave a coat on a chair (oh now your going to say, what if it;s nicked), wave your receipt at the person if they have taken your table. not many lone diners though,, now Naomi I'll go easy really but now your having to revert to a signle person so you can avoid beinig wrong! These where a couple remember!

I assume the couple weren't aware ofctge table numbering system, so they couldn't give a table number, right?
So, this is what should've happened (It's painfully simple).
When the waitress goes upstairs to bring them their starter, she should've made a note of their table number. With thatconformation, the bill could then be associated with them.
Job done.
Secondly, the report states that they were the only couple dining there at the time. The word 'couple' would suffice (if the staff didn't have the common sense to follow approach number one).
However, with all that in mind, it DOES appear tone a storm in a tea cup. As Lucy correctly points out - there are FAR more serious cases of overt racism that people should focus their attentions on. Stories like this just serve as a silly distraction.

It reminds me of a text sent to me by my non white friend
An African father and son were flying to London when the pilot announced...
"The fuel tanks are running low and we have to offload some baggage"
Five mins later another announcement......
"I`m very sorry, the plane is still too heavy, we have to start unloading passengers
and to make it fair we`ll do it in alphabetical order...any Africans on board?"

"Any blacks onboard?"

/// Put it this way, were I to be in a town or city centre where a bank has just been robbed by 2 black people, and the cops are rushing to the scene looking for the suspects whose descriptions have been given to them,///
Being white wouldn't have got you off the hook. The cops would still have to be seen to question you also, or they would be charged at only picking on black people.
