How can the UK afford to donate £ 1.5 billion to help poorer countries lower there green house gases surely that money would be better spent helping to lower our debt..

But as everyone knows Gordon Brown refuses to believe the debt exists. We are now living in a virtual world where money grows on trees and they can spend it as though the recession or bank debts never existed. We can all wake up after the next election and pass the golden chalice onto the next incumbant.

In todays paper it said every man woman and child will have to pay up 16,000 pound to get us out of debt and there he is giving more away for no reason whatsoever.. maybe he's after being presidente of europe in the future.. another featherer of nests

How come total european contribution is £7billion between 27 countries and we get to give £1.5billion?
We have a higher public debt to GDP ratio than Iceland never mind EU countries.
Is brown innumerate? delusional? scorching the earth? or just trying out willy wave everybody and be a 'statesman' like bliar?

I agree and while we are at it lets stop paying the EU 12Billion a year so they can shaft us!

Yes when I heard that we were contributing 1/4 of the EU's share, I just couldn't believe it. But then it is just the same with our contribution of troops to Afghanistan, we are always in there first, ever ready to dish out what we can least afford, taking that it has only just been announced that we are to cut our Defence budget. Why aren't the other parties banging the desk, and asking some searching questions, what is going off? But then it is becoming more and more obvious that we have a one party state in this country.

Listening to a radio phone-in last night, a person was asking the same question, what is going off? He went on to say that he was so disillusioned with our politicians that he was going to vote for the BNP at the next election, because it seems it is only them that are listening to the public, and seem to offering the British voter a true alternative.

The obviously left wing presenter, replied that this listener should not vote for the BNP, because they are crafty and are not telling the public the whole truth. This made me laugh does he really think that our existing party politicians are really telling us the truth? take the expenses for instance would we have found out about that if it had not been for the Times newspaper?

The real supposed benefit of the EU is that expenditure could be shared proportionally to each country's wealth. That is defence budgets, overseas aid, climate change support,etc, could be lower as the combined total will far exceed any single country to contribute.

But our politicians just don't get it. As AOG says the UK troops far outnumber any other EU state. Now our overseas budget far exceeds richer countries like France and Germany. Why can't they see it??

Aside from this the only consolation is our attack on banker's bonuses. This has broad agreement worldwide and only goes to show a policy shared has more strength.
