Kirk, what makes Murray a miserable g*t in your eyes? How can you expect him to smile when he's concentrating on winning matches? Do you smile all the time when playing sport? Watch interviews with Murray and film of him off-court and you'll find he has a great sense of humour. He's a bright and genuine guy.

ahmskunnert -Murray will have the last laugh and I agree 100% with what you said. However im reluctant to champion someone of such a young age to win an award which in my opinion should really be awarded to people who have through a lengthy carrer, proven their worth.
Murrays time will come -there is no doubt -Giggs had his well deserved moment in my opinion.Just wish i had had money on it !

It shouldn't be a personality contest? With that name? And the bit about 'of the year' suggests it should be given for performance in 2009, not over a career. A Best Acting Oscar, not a Lifetime Award.
Good point skunnert !

JNO -very good point -it shoudlnt be termed as that as personalities dont come into it -its achievements and any sportsperson doesnt just achive in one year -it takes years and years to reach their peak.

EMail to the Beeb !!!

Joe Calzaghe, Chris Hoy and now Ryan Giggs. Do the non English countries of the United Kingdom support their sports stars more enthusiastically than the English?
Naw Gromit -we're just better :)
I voted for Jessica.....
Dris, I don't the BBC's interested in rewarding people for a lifetime's work (usually) - they're a news organisation so what they're normally after is the person who provided the biggest sports news story of the year.
I didnt vote lol !!
I knew Giggs would win -im skunnered I didnt lash a bet on tho -dagnabbit !
i thought giggsy got his award for being the most 'decorated' footbaler in premierhsip history or something ? which i think is a fine achievement, but as jno said, hardly an achievement specific to 'this year'. however, as much as i dislike his club, there isn't anyone else who i would recommend for spoty particularly.
i think he won because walas gave up on X factor when lucie and lloyd left!!!
ad far as national icons go, i think wales would be better off sticking to tom jones, max boyce, katherine jenkins and ryan giggs rather than any x factor wastrels.
Great player but personality?
