Why is burglary treated as a minor crime?
I consider it a very serious invasion of personal space/property, a virtual rape. Some of the victims are traumatised permanently, often having to move. Yet our courts treat it like shop lifting. To get jailed a criminal has to have dozens under the belt. So why as a society can we not lock this scum up for longer?

If there was a risk assessment done for burglars, none of them would be allowed to carry on the trade.
Blue Geezer badge right there for sandy-wroe.
Build more! end of. Anyway if they knw it was 10 years first offence burglary would pretty well stop. Initially prison population would rise but in the long term there would be less in jail. Paradoxical thinking, lefties hate it!
There is also the Geezer prison outsourcing plan to consider!

Its not just burglary Geezer, we have become limp writed on all crime. Teh direct result of hand wringing pinko liberals sitting in judgement egged on by Jack 'man of' Straw and Bottler who dont want to build more Jails.
As you say, build more bang them up for proper length, no early release, no playstations etc and then lets see what happens. The liberalidea has failed, no surprise so lets change it.
All for outsourcing so long as its Thailand or maybe Turkey. i.e. somewhere they know how to run a Jail.

Gosh...this makes my life seem so bad...It's not, honest.
I was burgled just after Christmas by a night time burglar. He got into my house via the kitchen window (old Victorian house) he lit a candle and went round taking what ever he could carry....he was on foot.
I didn't realise what had happened the next morning....just that things had been moved around. It dawned on us pretty quickly though as my kids xmas presents were missing. Once we'd realised what had happened we followed the candle wax. I had a very large house at the time and my bedroom was on the third floor....going by the candle wax he stood at the end of my bed for sometime...whilst I was asleep. He'd been in and out of my kids rooms as well....
I was sick after...I didn't wake up and he could've taken my kids without me knowing.
He got 6 years....

This is the funny part. He stole my packs of 200 fags and all my alcohol and then went into my local pub trying to flog them....to my friends...
I didn't know him but he lived just down the road....drug addict. He'd broken into 25 houses before mine. I was 26 and then he got caught.
I couldn't sleep for a long time after....thank God I ware PJ's...!!!

I'd accept 6 years if it actually meant 6 years in a proper prison rather than 3 years in Butlins.
I will give a tarrif for those Jake but first I want to make it clear that under the geezer rules there is no remission for good behavious but a sentance can be increased for bad behaviour. There are also no concurrent sentences.
Speeding? - the current system is about right for that
Tax evasion - ditto
Shoplifting? - 1 year 1st offence, 5years second offence, 10 years thereafter
Burglary? - 10 years first offence, 20 years thereafter
Assault? - Depends on severity but I'd go with the current system on that (note remisiion is now banned)
GBH? - I'll go with the current system on that
Manslaughter? - ditto
Murder? - Life with no possibilty of parole.
We'd obviously have a period were extra jail space is needed but, we can outsource that.

So you think that someone who goes out and deliberately flouts the law and puts their own as well as other people's lives in danger deserves no more that a few points on their licence and an inconsequential fine, but if some one breaks in and steals your tv, then should be sent to prison for 10 years.
Wow.
