there's an R1Bird?

OMG!!!
R1geezer....from what I gather, it will not be compulsory for anyone to go through the scanner, the choice being up to the individual.

yes sara there is a mad woman out there!

surely if it's optional sqad it's pointless, i mean if you could avoid a "strip search" you would right?
Isn't it only optional while they are testing it?
I also thought it was optional only during the trial period. After that, I understood it will be compulsory - and if it is, I hope there are no exceptions.

newknowledge, you just never know....... !
Would these new scanners have picked up this latest attempt?

I believe not - The material was sen into his underpants and given the resolution of the pictures I really don't think they would have helped.

I doubt these will make travel safer, They will however reduce the number of security staff required to process a certain number of travellers in a certain time.

They are about saving money - if they make people feel safer too I'm sure that's a welcome side effect.

If you really want to do this you have to do what El Al do and interview every traveller before they're allowed to fly but that's very time consuming and will probably be unacceptable to all but the most paranoid
jake appears to be right (as usual)

Still, they should give security staff something interesting to look at, after all those fruitless years of staring at Xrays of shoes.
I think it's a great step forward. Oh wait, no I don't! Every step in this direction is another win for the terrorists, and they are winning hands down these days.

The technology is new, however once in place it will improve. If you dont start you will never get there as there wont be the investment.

As for playing into the Terrorists hands, maybe. But so is doing nothing.

Until the world is ready to stand up and really fight muslim fanatics it will unfortunaltey get worse for us all.
