Husing benefits - being abused
I must admit I know little about how housing benefit works, but can someone explain to me how that piece of scum who wants to do that Muslim march lives in a £300,000 house, and yet gets thousands in housing benefit.
Under what situations do you get housing benefit?
It seems housing benefit is costing this country between 15 billion and 20 billion a year (depend who you read).
Surely we cant continue to have a system where so much money is paid out in benefits to keep people in housing?
I have heard of situations here in Birmingham where some immigrants buy cheap houses, then rent them out to each other, living in each others houses and claiming housing benefit.
Does the fact it exists encourage benefit fraud and drive up the price of rents for housing?

Many immigrants dont get loans through "normal" mortgage routes.
They often borrow money from within their own commuities (friends. relatives etc) and hence avoid huge mortgage repaymments.
They often want to pay these back as quickly as possible hence they like jobs where they can work with lots of cash and skim some off the top to avoid paying tax on the earnings so pay back the loan.
This is why they like corner shops.
Plenty of cash, very little cheque / credit card business.
All the family can work in the shop (husband, wife, children, even grandparents). Apart from the husband nobody earns a salary, hence none of them pay tax as they earn "nothing".
All the "extra" money they get from the business is then in cash and can be used to pay back the loan over a very short period of time (often a year or two).
This is why many immigrants own good houses fairly quickly when it takes most of us "white" people 30 years to own our own house.
People think immigrants open corner shops for OUR benefit but in fact it is purely for THEIR benefit. It suits their family dynamics, and is almost totally a cash business.

Just for the record, housing benefit is hardly ever paid to landlords these days. New legislation came out in October 09 which meant most of it went to the claimants. A fantastic example of our government having no idea what the real world is like.
Have no idea what the cornershop debate has to do with the benefit question but I love cornershops. They are 100% convenient! Lol.

If owning a corner shop is such a good idea, why don't non-immigrants run them,VHG ? Surely the same tax dodges are open to other operators of small grocery shops? Do you think the Revenue are so naive as to not have a good idea what cash businesses take and don't have powers of compulsory disclosure of bank statements, turnover, stock purchases, cash held, private assets and expenditures, and all the rest ? Or do you think the Revenue are shy of pursuing immigrants?

A woman I know had a very low income, but the rent on her flat was above the ceiling that her Council'd allow in housing benefit, so she had to take on a part-time job to earn the extra, despite being in her 60's. The ceiling set by other Councils must differ, because when a large family move into a house in London for instance, the rents'd be colossal, and no one could afford to make up the difference, so these houses must be given totally rent-free to the occupiers. It's the landlords who're laughing all the way to the bank.
I need to ask you something VHG, have you ever visited a third-world country? Do you have any idea how abominably low the quality of life can be in some of these places? Vast numbers of them live below a poverty belt that compared to UK would make any compassionate person sick. The infant mortality rate is massive and there is usually nothing they can do about any of this.
Most of these "immigrants" you talk about come from countries like this and when they get the rare opportunity to come to a (by comparison) FILTHY RICH country such as ours, they work their butts off to make as much money as possible so they can support the families they've had to leave behind.
Most of them are willing to take on the most undesirable jobs UK has to offer at abominably low rates -often being paid well below the 'national minimum wage'.

not being funny, but a 300k house in leytonstones is probably not as attractive as it sounds.
it will no doubt be a small 3 bed terrace house, with a price tag to suit being in zone 3 of the london transport network system and links to stratford/olympics etc. the area itself is a dive, high unemployment, high levels of low earning immigrants, and generally a grotty grotty run down place.
in any event, how do we know what people get in benefits ? i am aware of fredom of information etc., but is this info freely available to anyone to find out how much any individual in the uk gets ? or is it just madeup / reported by the press ?

So you're saying that hard-working immigrants open their own business to better themselves, get a better education for their kids, and move into nice houses.
Sounds like pretty smart way of organising your life! Something to celebrate surely? Family run businesses are the bedrock of the UK ("A nation of shopkeepers").
Well done to anyone who can open and maintain a going concern in today's economic climate. Much better than sitting at home shovelling pizza down one's neck, whilst watching Jeremy Kyle surely?

Have to agree wholeheartedly with Mustardmit - we should and do welcome and encorage people to come to this country to work hard and enjoy a better standard of life. The 'gentleman' in question was born and raised in this country - I believe - so this does not apply to him - BUT why should a fully qualified lawyer (I believe) be on beneifits anyway. Its ridiculous
There is a Local Housing Allowance, which varies from area to area, and can vary from month to month. The purpose is to establish what fair rent is for particular sized properties. Example - if £500 per calendar month is the set LHA for a 1 bed flat, but someone moves in to a property commanding £550, the tenant should be meeting the shortfall.
Just to add to the discussion of direct payment to landlord - yes it has recently changed, that the rent is paid directly to the tenant, but even more recent legislation allows the landlord to request direct payment if there are problems with the tenant, eg starts paying the rent late (or not at all) - I think the timescale is 4 weeks.

Regardless of the amoutn I am always annoyed that people on benefits are allowed to go an protest. Those that work are funding these people and are unable to go and put their voice forward meaning that the benefits people have a loud voice that, in our looney hand wringing liberal state is heard as the voice of the people.
If you are on benefits you should be given somewhere to turn up to every day for 7 hours. Otherwise NO 'pay'. that would soon sort it out.

On the lunchtime news today we had homeless people sleeping rough on the streets of a big city. Many of them are said to be ex-soldiers. There are roughly 4000 rough sleepers out there. Many would refuse to be housed but many would love the privileges handed out to migrants. Charity should begin at home not in the far east.
