what's wrong with taking them to the several dozen american run 5 star hotels on the other side of the island in the Dominican Republic, surely it is closer,.

Goes to show what happens when you enter a foreign country with the express wish you are trying to help them. The next thing is that half the country wants to return with you. That's why we have so many immigrants from Iraq and Afghanistan.

The US have done the right thing by taking them to Guantanamo. They won't want to stay there for long.
