John Terry named Tiger Woods - who is embroiled in his own extra-marital sex scandal - as his favorite sportsman, it was revealed last night.

Terry also told Football Punk magazine last September of the importance of being 'honest' with team-mates - at the very time he was cheating on his wife with Wayne Bridge's ex-girlfriend. 'We have a good bunch of players in the England squad who are honest with each other,' he said.

His private life has nothing to do with us, and has nothing to do with his job. Just because he is also a celebrity does not mean he should be treated differently than anyone else. If everyone who had ever cheated on their partners was sacked from their job, the country would come to a standstill. How many of the journalists who are baying for his blood are guilty of the same sin?

It also has smatterings of a class thing. He is obviously not from good stock. The right wing press in particular seem to want him ousted. Unfortunately for them, he is a very good player and he deserves the captaincy on merit rather than his upbringing.

A captain needs to command respect and loyalty from his team mates.

If his team mates are happy that he slept with an EX girlfriend of a team mate despite being married, then there is no issue.

If on the other hand, they are cheesed off with him, then he doesn't have the respect and loyalty that a captain needs to lead a team to victory.
