I wondered how on earth did she got this job and then I read:

/// Most forces inthe UK required female recruits to be at least 5ft 4ins until 10 years ago, when the Macpherson Report ruled the height restriction discriminated against those from ethnic backgrounds such as the Chinese, who are shorter.///

Now we all know we can't have discrimination against those from the ethnic minorities, can we?

Seen any Chinese policemen recently?

She read about the job in Cosmopolitan. So that's where the firearms police and military installations guards vacancies are advertised now! Crazy world we live in.

They give women Guns??
ahm, ah so you are one of them and my tattoo is right " All coppers are b*stards"
What about all the overweight police? The two beat officers for my area a few months ago were both near retirment and both around 20 stone! They were unable to run more than 40 yards. All the local troublemakers could do what they liked then run away!

Do you think that I can sue Tayside Police for turning me down for being too short in 1980?

Finally -

It's PC gone mad!

What do you think of short men in the police?

Personally, I want what most people want - the best person for the job. Some forces said that a copper used to have to be 5ft 10" before the McPherson report. I know some smaller coppers who do a great job. I would go as far as saying that if they weren't allowed to join the force would be worse off.

I would much rather have a 5ft policeman who was a good at dealing with the public than a 6ft policeman who wasn't.

It's a disgrace that so much money is spent on policing when our soldiers in Afghanistan don't even have proper kit. THEY MUST COME FIRST.
ahmskunnirt - to give you an example - I used to work in the pub business and on a Friday / Saturday night we used to have doormen on to ensure that there was no trouble and that the number of people coming in was limited.

A couple of women could handle groups of men far better than a couple of men could - a group of men (especially if they have had a drink or are in the mood for a fight) will easily turn on a couple of doormen. There was never a single fight when women were on the door - as men (even riled up ones) will automatically NOT want to get into a fight with a woman.

As I said - I would prefer the right people for the job. A police officers job is very varied and to only look at one issue (eg riots) is far too simplistic. You can't employ people on the basis of what will happen a few days a year.
She's tidy. I would :)
