Pet lamb sent to slaughter.
The head teacher Andrea Charman has resigned after receiving hate mail from parents for sending their childrens pet lamb to slaughter and serving it up for school dinner. The children had hand reared the lamb from a baby given it a name and considered it their pet.
Andrea Chapman claimed that had been the purpose all along and that the children had approved of her action. The parents thought otherwise and she received hate mail from them and from all over the world . What do you think of her actions ?

I think the proceedure was poorly judged and executed - if you'll pardon the expression.
The notion that primary children can understand the concept of 'feed' animals as against 'pets' is a tenuous one at best. This seems like an adult attempting to 'edcuate' children in a very ham-fisted and badly- thought- way.

FAO Modeller - This school is not a special school; it was a school on special measures as judged by OFSTED. There are over 250 children on roll. The 14 children who voted are members of the School Council. Whether teachers like it or not, part of the curriculum now includes preparing children's economic development ready for life after school.(Yes even from the tender age of 4.) If the lamb in question had been raised as a pet then yes it was at best unwise to send it to slaughter, but if it was made clear to the children from the outset that this was a business venture then what better way to teach the children about enonomic well being? Thanks for the clarification re- Special Needs which was a term used by one of the subscribers and which I queried. With regards to the lamb being a pet the parents were told by the children how it was treated as a pet not a farm animal. The journalists who interviewed the protesting parents were also of that opinion. If you can prove otherwise why don't you take it up with them you would then get an apology. Whether your project was itself wise is a matter of opinion as events have shown.
