Truly remarkable, yet many voters continue to cast their ballot based only on promises...
The abolition of universal child benefit.
Households who have a combined income of more than £40K should not recieve government hand outs. If you're going to have kids, then you should fund them yourselves.
The money saved should them be pumped into te NHS.
Congestion charging to be applied to all UK cities with a population over one million. The charge itself should be increased to £25 a day, with the extra revenue being DIRECTLY used to improve the rail and road networks. The incoming Government would have to appoint an independent auditor which would monitor road/rail improvements, with heavy fines for and contracted company that did not meet pre-arranged deadlines.
And finally - the government should establish a fund to assist all Britswho have issues with immigration, to leave the country, and resettle elsewhere in Europe, where I am sure they will be much happier, and enjoy an improved standard of life.

Weirdly, I was actually going to make that exact same point - first two kids get child benefit, and then that's your lot.
However my problem is the whole universiality (a word I just made up) of it.
A family bringing in £150K a year (and that's not that rare nowadays) shouldn't receive a benefit.
It just seems mad.
And weirdly...a bit 'communist'.

1) parliamentary reform to remove the house of lords and replace it with a more representative council of individuals that are paid a wage and serve for a set period like 8 years.
2) The movement of parliament out of central London - set it up somewhere cheaper and with a purpose built chamber that can sit all the MPs. The building should also include high spec flats that MPs could stay in if their constituancies are far away (they wouldn't own them though the tax payers would).

It is clear we shall always get the Government we deserve because, with apologies to Abraham Lincoln:-
"You can please all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot please all the people all the time."
Not one political party can offer the electorate everthing they would like. Those that are living on benefits will always vote Labour whilst the majority of the better off will vote Tory. The remainder vote for the rest.

lynbrown I'm surprised you can say that about the Euro. The £ has been devalued yet we can't make use of it this time for more exports. So we have to produce more just to stand still. Its just like taking a wage cut.
Some European countries are in trouble but you would think it would harm the Euro. But no the £ is still in the doldrums and has hardly shifted against the Euro.
