anti social behaviour....
Is it much worse now or is it just reported more? It does seem like the former, not a day goes by that we don't hear of lowlives making someones life a misery. Why are we so bad at dealing with it? What has changed in young people that makes them repellant? To normal people they are almost like another species of animal to avoid or fear, what has gone wrong?

I put it down to deliberate government and council policy on things like marijuana treating it lightly has made it almost acceptable nowadays, these kids are as high as kites most times.
At last government is listening, police on foot walking the beat (no more of this nonsense of it being an inefficient use of resources) tougher sentencing (and it being carried out) wil eventually sort it out.

These little scumbags have no discipline at home there is none at school for fear of breaching their human rights and they know it and use it to the max.
I have a friend who is an assistant head at a school here in london, he is always telling us what really goes on in these places, the kids will think nothing of threatening a teacher if they get told off, and they know theres nothing the teachers can really do about it.
most teachers wont report it because they dont want to get a reputation as being weak so they just let it go
He is leaving teaching because he says its just not worth it

I think it is down to the parents as so many others have said - trying to re-install respect at school, for the police, etc. will all do nothing unless it comes from and is reinforced in the home.
I have worked a lot with young people and have lost count of the numbers of times parents have come down to the project effing and jeffing about their little darling (incidentally this was a project for children leaving care or accepted as homeless so they hadn't been living with mum/dad!) had a warning letter or something for unacceptable behaviour. The parents were far more abusive, offensive and threatening than any of the young people were - and to give our residents their due, they could often see that too.
But please don't forget - we are talking about a small minority of young people here - that does not make it any the less concerning, but let's not label every young person.

"Zehul that was exactly my point I am 59 , missed National service by less than 4 years.
Mine is the first generation for nearly a century that did not learn respect by having to serve your country"
Are you really qualified to comment on its value, then?
Because to me, sending people to war doesn't sound like a particularly good way to improve their psychological character.

And what proof does anybody have that any military services improves character, regardless of whether wars are involved. I am certainly glad that my son hasn't been forced into the services. It can actually destroy people as well. I get so fed up with people that fail to see that we are all individuals and as such react differently to situations.
