So a British person cannot get a job in their own country, unless they can't speak Polish.

Fair enough if the job is an English - Polish translator or similar, but it isn't.it's working for a cooked meat manufacturer

/// The company claimed it was necessary as all health and safety training was conducted in Polish.///

What is wrong in them printing some in English, the native language?

We have to print most things in dozens of languages these days, why is this firm so different?

If we were allowed to get away with this excuse, can you imagine the number of English speaking jobs there would be for the English speakers of this country?

I agree that this shouldn't happen.

So does the law and so does the company involved.

Well, that's sorted then.
"So a British person cannot get a job in their own country, unless they can't speak Polish."

Come again?
Outsourcing our jobs to foreign countries was just a dirty word. So now they in-source the work as firms can get cheap and non union labour.

As shown by the British Airways stalemate companies can issue ultimatums without going into the disputes procedures.

Its a price we get for weakening union powers and we deserve what we have asked for.

Are you on the "wacky - baccy" again, what part of this don't you understand?

/// So a British person cannot get a job in their own country, unless they can't speak Polish. ///

This statement was appertaining to the particular job, highlighted in the news report.

i admit I mistakenly forgot to put a question mark at the end of the sentence, but this should not have prevented anyone with a reasonable amount of intelligence from understanding the question.
↑ he meant can, not can't.

;o)
Unless they can't speak Polish....lol

I've got my body armour...

///It's tragic when people can't even manage to see mistakes in their own posts when they are pointed out to them. ///

Not only that, but he then insults the poster by accusing him of illegal activity.

Lucky that AOG never complains about manners on this site isn't it ;)
Isn't it strange how AOG has updated a load of his other questions, but doesn't seem to want to come back to this one. How bizarre!
If a British person was refused a job by this company because they couldn't speak Polish they could make a claim against it on the grounds of discrimination.
That fact alone makes me doubt the truth of this story.
"That fact alone makes me doubt the truth of this story"

That it's the Mail alone makes me doubt the truth of the story. They do have an impressive track record of being untroubled by fact-checking, verification, and basic understanding.
It does appear to be a genuine story, but as I said in my first reply -

it shouldn't happen, the law doesn't allow it to happen and the company have apologised saying that it is a mistake.
