I have just learned that George Osborne is in charge of the Conservative's election strategy. I have not exactly been impressed with his performance as Shadow Chancellor, and a little surprised that someone more experience is not in charge.
Are the Tories on this site heartened by Osborne's new role?
I agree jake.
I personally,would like to see a "heavyweight" eg William Hague,in charge.Despite
losing an election, when the Labour Party, was at its height,he still remains a very strong and forthright politician.
I'd like to see Cameron appoint Hague, Howard, and Ian Duncan whatshisname to mastermind the election campaign.. A triumvirate made up of those three could be relied on to guide the Tory election prospects onto the rocks.
No I'm not. I like Osborne, he is a young and enthusiastic Politician. Yeah he's messed up at times, some call him a 'liability' but I think he has that passion to ride the Tories to an election victory. I think he compliments Cameron and some may not agree, but I like his honesty when he addressed the NI issue saying that it 'would be his priority but could not guarantee money would be found to address it.' I would rather hear that then Gordon Browns lies.
I heard him on Radio 5 the other day with Victoria and I thought his confidence elicited showed his determination and committment and that 'umphh' factor is just what the Conservatives are in need of for an election victory. So I am not at all disheartened by Osborne's new role.
My 5-year-old nephew's passionate but I wouldn't trust him to run the economy.
And I'm surprised, seadragon, that you're swayed by such obvious doublespeak: saying something is his priority but that it wouldn't necessarily get funds. That means it's not the priority. Otherwise, you'd prioritise funds for it. That's sort of what 'priority' means.
Geezer, Gromit isn't slagging him off because he's a Tory. He's saying there are better Tories available. If anything that's a compliment to them.
I also think he's the wrong man to be in charge of their election strategy, but having said that, I think he'll be a good Chancellor. Don't forget, that its his proposed polocies that Labour blatently pinched last year.
No Quinlad, I wouldn't trust your 5 yr old nephew to run the economy either, unless you think he has real potential then I may vote for him in the future - if he is a Tory that is!
I recognise the doublespeech and I am saying that I would rather have the honesty than the lies, that's all. Even if Tories win, it is not going to be easy for them and some of their actions will be criticized but at least we won't have more and more lies. That's all.
Jake even the European Commission don't agree with Labour's strategies for reducing the national debt.
No Quinlad, I think it is honesty. He acknowledges that it is important but he is being realist enough to state that the economy is so messed up he won't be able to put all resources into one area.
If you are a Conservative, why can't you just agree with me? If you are Labour then 'get lost' and if you are anything else then there is a log-out button at the top of this page. (Only joking)
But he's not saying it's 'important' - that's a given. He's saying it's a priority (which he knows sounds better) despite not making it a priority when it comes to funding. That's classic politician's talk.
I think Osbourne has an important role here and it just may win the Tories the election.
Ok Quinlad, we going to have to agree to disagree. (That's classic Answerbank talk??) And since you mention that we are 'splitting hairs' my name has a capital 'S'.
Good Lord. Does anybody still call the Labour Party "lefties"? The two parties are like Tweedledum and Tweedledumber. They all have their hands in the till. They all grovel to the bankers and do their bidding. What a useless canaille!
