I guess I'm a hard core Lib Dem voter (I've never voted for anyone else).

I'd happily choose the Conservatives or even Labour if they ran with an election promise of putting civil liberties above the interests of business or the power of state. For example if they worked to remove the worst bits of the serious organized crime and police act and the anti-terrorism act (or even promised to review how the terrorism legislation was used e.g. only to use it when there was a real possibility of a terrorist threat rather than just willy-nilly as any police officer fancies).

As, in my case the opposing party would be Labour, the answer is no because Labour don't keep promises.

I changed my vote a few elections back. Whatever Labour tell me now or in the future is irrelevant, because I will never again believe a word of it.

I have voted Tory for the past 40 years. This time I'm voting Labour. Why? Nothing to do with politics or policies, I just can't bring myself to vote for anyone called Wendy (with apologies in advance to all the Wendys out there).

I would much prefer my greedy children inherit my home than the government of today. I have worked hard paid taxes (and still pay tax) and saved for my home, for my children to enjoy. The government who does not steal my childrens inheritance gets my vote.

I would not vote Tory under any circumstances even if they were the last Party on Earth.
What have they ever done for the less well off in our Society, absolutely nothing.
Labour has helped a little but need to do far more. Every Budget that comes along it is the same tired old Formula of Taxing the Motorist, the Drinker, the Smoker, the Pensioners and the vulnerable.
The Tories would not care if a loaf of Bread costs £10. Their Motto is 'We'll help the Rich get richer' (Sod the rest of you)

The reason there is a shortage of affordable Homes in this Country is because the Tories got Local Authorities to sell Council Houses to Tenants.There is a huge waiting list now for Council Homes as these Houses are in short supply.

ask yourgran, I don't know what current law is, but my mum made over her property to us kids equally while she was still alive. No inheritance tax was payable. It had to be done x years before her death (not sure what the actual time frame was, but you can't just do it when you're already on your deathbed).

1. Sell off gold reserves at the bottom of the market.
2. Lie about WMD in Iraq and Iraqs ability to launch an attack within 45 minutes.
3. Kill the savings ethic in this country.
4. Take billions out of personal pension pots.
5. Ease regulation and oversight of Financial Services in UK so that dodgy
investment banks could flourish and wreck the economy.
6. Push ahead with PFI to build substandard hospitals and schools that taxpayers
will be repaying for years to come.
7. Deny military the vehicles and helicopters needed to do the job.
8. Cover up the expenses scandal of parliament.
9. Appoint new Peers and then make these unelected people Ministers.

Redman, I disagree with your take on the Tory motto. That's a concept that's stuck in the dark ages. The Labour Party is no longer what it was, and neither is the Conservative Party. Whilst I think we should and must care for the vulnerable (but only the vulnerable, and not the lazy bu&&ers who expect the world to owe them a living), I believe that hard work warrants reward. There's little point in working your socks off and scrimping and scraping to make a better life for yourself and your family if you're penalised for it.

I also agree with JJ and askyourgran regarding inheritance tax. Few of us are aristocrats with a family pile handed down through generations - and many of those are now crippled by inheritance tax, so contrary to popular belief, they aren't all wallowing in luxury. The money that buys most family homes has usually been hard earned, and well and truly taxed already, so the greedy government has already had its share of the spoils. What we do with what we rightly own should be our decision, and if we choose to leave it to our children, then so be it. We earned it, we've paid our taxes on the money that bought it, and it's ours to give where we see fit.

Incidentally, I didn't agree with selling council houses. Far better to give low rate mortgages to people to buy in the private sector, leaving social housing available for those who really need it.
