Shouldn't all legitimate political parties be allowed to conduct a meeting without the usual trouble makers assembling to disrupt the meeting?

Both attract thugs, and both seem to enjoy and believe that the skirmishes are good publicity and good recruiting sergeants for their cause.
And it works. You are only on here peddling your usual BNP leanings because of yesterday's incident. You make no mention of the manifesto or whether they will do well, but you chose instead to focus on a lone protestor didn't land a blow.

I agree that all legitimate political parties should be allowed to meet and their meetings should be protected by law.
One of the criteria should be that the party's beliefs and the speeches at the meeting must be lawful.
So Marxists are probably ok, Islamic Jihad probably not, The Paedophile Party no, The Ku Klux Klan no and it has to be said, the spin-offs from The National Front routinely cross the line into illegality unless restrained by the courts.

Oldgit, I still can't get over the disappointment from yesterday's thread. I just find it hard to believe that you could not apologise even in the slightest for your racial comments yesterday. You didn't even have the guts to apologise to Onlineoap who has fought for this Country in the War, who fought for democracy and values of respect, fairness and equality, the issues that you have the nerve to raise even on this thread.
You ask who are the Facists? They are you Oldgit, the ones who stand outside Govt buildings holding abusive placards, who encourage physical violence and then blame others, who shout out rascist calls of 'commie scum, off our streets.' (Taken from your article). As Gromit says they are the extremists.

I can see no reason to apologise to the likes of you, or anyone else who do not in turn apologise to me for the barrage of insults that are targeted at me on numerous occasions.
You use the words democracy and values of respect, fairness and equality, you would not know the meaning of these words if they struck you in the face.
Democracy a state that one is free to speak out, even though some may disagree.
Values of respect, one cannot receive this unless one is prepared to respect others in return.
Fairness, be prepared to accept equal rights of debate, without issuing insults to those you don't agree with..
Equality, expect to be treated the same as you treats others.
A good example of this you pointed out yourself, you criticise the BNP for shouting 'commie scum, off our streets.', when others shout Fascists, Nazis, at every chance.
But how calls of 'commie scum, can be classed as rascist (racist) I do not know, but you would think that being so used to rolling out the word you would at least know how to spell it.

Oldgit, I quoted the word as it is spelt. If I don't know the meaning of anything its the words 'commie scum' but I know offensive words when I see them.
What insults exactly have I thrown at you? Yesterday I told you that I don't call you a racist only your comments - 2 of them in fact - very highly offensive. It is not the debate that I had contention with but the insulting comments, your first offensive comment is in the question so how can you have the nerve to say that you do not insult first?
You're entitled to think and say what you want in your home but Answerbank is a public forum and you must take some responsibility if you choose to voice offensive comments online. As a person who lives and works in a multi-cultural community, who counts and values friends and colleagues whatever their skin colour, I find your comments upsetting and offensive and therefore you owe me an apology.

And I stand up for Onlineoap in particular as he expressly vocally condemned your comments and he had fought in the War against just the type of racist/fascist poisonous incitement you exhibited yesterday - especially when you called upon people to 'be honest' as justification for your own views.
Your offensive comments have no place on a public forum and yet you have the audacity to tell me that I don't know the meaning of the value of respect, fairness and equality??
Unbelieveable hypocrisy.
Have the decency to face some responsibility - please. From one person to another.

Most political parties launch their election campaigns from their headquarters or nearby hall or building.
The BNP chose the public street outside a Government Agency. The cost of Policing this stunt must have been considerable. It was inviting trouble, just to grab a few cheap headlines.
// In contrast to the highly organised manifesto launches of other parties in recent days, the BNP gathering got off to an unusual start as candidates and journalists amassed outside East Croydon railway station, awaiting further details on where the meeting would take place.
Along with a handful of police officers, party officials eventually led the group away from the station and on a roundabout route through the streets of Croydon to the back of Lunar House.

I'm still waiting Oldgit - I've even tried to make it easier for you by saying 'please'.
You can't just throw racist comments on a public forum and then not have the decency or respect to apologise when a person takes offence?
Don't run away from your own comments.
If you don't want to apologise and you stand by what you said then have the nerve to admit that your comments are racist.

I can't believe you are so gutless Oldgit.
Your own stubborness stains your character. How can you even have the nerve to feel some compassion for soldiers who fight against rascism and injustice and not apologise for your own rascist comments is uncomprehendable.
History as shown millions of people what racist comments have led to and I am so, so saddened to find such encouragement of prejudice on a public website.
And to add to that.....such cowardice, even under the protection of anonymity.

P.s Kai, I am not going to give up. If people had not stood against racist comments slavery would be still accepted today.
There was a documentary on one of the sky channels awhile back that looked at slavery and I could barely look at the harrowing pictures of abusive scars inflicted by the 'masters' but one poignant part was a black man who said that even the family dog was treated with more respect than the black person was.

The British are the most tolerant nation in the world, but if we were to apologise for everything that some allow themselves to be offended about, we would spend all our time apologising.
A typical example is slavery, we are still expected to apologise for this almost 200 yeas after it was made illegal by our forefathers, in the whole of the British Empire.
Although slavery was implemented by almost every nation in the world, especially Africa, it seems it is left to the British to carry the full responsibility for the rest of time.
Regarding apologising for what you and others have chosen to label racist comments, I have this to say "The word racist is now becoming a most diluted word and carries no fear, for one being so called."
Just because one doesn't agree with what another person has said, and providing that person has said nothing that is illegal, one should not insult that person by calling them a racist etc..

Perhaps before looking at documentaries that looked at slavery, and upsetting yourself by looking at the harrowing pictures of abusive scars inflicted by the 'masters' almost 200 years ago.
You should perhaps look at the harrowing pictures of young Blacks knifed and gunned down by other Blacks on our streets in 2010.
Or a little further from home some of the harrowing pictures of Black on Black sadistic crimes in South Africa and even Haiti, after all they have been through.
