At a cost of £10m, Is it right for those elderly British who have chosen to live abroad either in Spain or as far away as India and the Caribbean, can still receive their Winter Fuel payments?

I would say...why not?
they have paid into the system like you and I, so that would be positive discrimination
may as well give them disability benefit as well. They have paid in after all.
only if they are disabled, and in that case they would get it anyway
They can in the EU

They can't be descriminated against just because of where they live.

There could be a regional system introduced where some sort of formula based on average temperatures seen that year would trigger payments in that region (The Scots would vote for that!).
I may have to be corrected on the latter assumption, I think you would have to reside in the UK to claim the disability allowance, someone maybe could clarify this one
Ho! ho!..I send my Winter Fuel Allowance back to the UK to be distributed to the "more needy"
I suspect changing the system would cost at least £10m

That really is a surprisingly small amount of money given there are 10.5 million pensioners

Are you sure that number is correct?
Well we let immigrants claim for child benefit and the kids don't even live in the UK and have never paid a bean into the system. So I think British expats should get the heating benefit.
like the chavs who think work is a 4 letter word sqad?
Hi DEN this is a school photo of me, do you like it?
bobbii ;-)

Den...keep looking at your photo......just my type.;-)
and you mean I'm not sqad
positive discrim there I would say..pmsl
Ha Ha Joy - I bet the shaving before going to school was a bummer .....

Sqad - I only took this photo of me last week - not sure if this is a compliment from you or not - as I know you fancy anything with a pulse.....(;0 (
Den...I wasn't allowed to claim child benefit for my daughter when she moved to Ireland to go to college.
morning ummmm - I think now its because of this Europe thingy that they can claim benefits for kids back in Poland etc.
would that be because it was S Ireland ummm, I think if it were today you prorobaly would have been able to as we are in the EU, I know Poles and E Europeans working here can because of their entry in the EU
Yeah...but I can't claim for my daughter in Ireland. Even though she's in full time education. So can the Poles?
-- answer removed --
not sure about that one ummm, so, have you to pay yourself for her college education is there no way Ireland can help out, I assume that is her birth place? and she is resident there
It gets damned cold in those Shacks at night aog !
