Dunno what planet you are on but on this one I think it's the Torys and Lib dems that are talking. Last I heard Brown had a short chat with Clegg and that was described as un productive. The talks between Con/Lib are going on right now according to he BBC. More than a little sign of desperation eh Zeuhl? I can't believe anyone wants this Totally discredited de-mandated shower of sh1te to stay on.
For the benefit of the ignorant and those who jump to false assumptions (sort yourselves into the appropriate category) I do not support, nor did I vote for Labour or Lib Dems.
However, surely anyone with more than two brain cells can see that the policies of Lib Dems and Tories have very little compatibility.
Clegg is doing the 'decent thing' and will be seen to either strike a deal or at least to have given them the opportunity.
The Lib Dems and Labour have common policies (especially voting reform for which there is a polular groundswell) - the bit that people won't swallow is retaining GB in No 10 - but that can easily be fixed at the right time.
Hence my question.
So any more ideas on a name in the frame?
Of course there is more commonality between the policies of the lib/dems and labour , as opposed to lib/ems and the tories .
However Cameron will sell his soul and do whatever it takes to get into number 10 , for nothing more than to be in power
All his pretence of altruism and concern about the people, is bull sh1t
Cameron and Clegg are two disappointed people. Both did worse than they should have. Psychologically they will both be desperate to grab the success they thought a week ago would be theirs. But both have to persuade their own parties as well as each other. In particular, the LibDems are Europeans and the Tories aren't, and party members are going to eat a lot of humble pie before they can compromise on this.
Alan Johnson would be a good choice for an interim leader. He is not as tribal as some of the Blairites/Brownites and is a good negotiator. He would listen to all sides in a coalition and remain calm. We don't want someone who throws their toys out of the pram. Milliband is a Blairite and Balls is a Brownite. Let's have Johnson or John Cruddas as caretaker and a leadership election later on this year.
