Walcott out, Heskey in...disaster!
24 Answers
Heskey, who's hardly scored any goals for ages, is renowned for falling flat on his face. Let's hope he does so while climbing the steps up to the plane flying England to South Africa, and Walcott gets the call after all. What do you think our chances are with Theo?

Walcott is out of form but I think he's more worthy of a place than Heskey. Still I'll appily eat my words if we do ok. Heskey go on, make me eat my words! This is our best chance for 20 years, let's dare to dream!
Almost missed Gromit's standard anti English na na nana na drivel. Have you not an ounce of hope for us Gromit? must you deride all our efforts for your own selfish pleasure? Yes I know you'll be supporting anyone playing England just like the sweaties, i pity your in built cynicism you'll never know the ecstasy of glory, just the self gratified smugness if right or the excuse laden sour grapes if wrong. Are you sure there's no Scot in you?
Glad Walcott is out, he's so overrated and has only ever had 1 good game for England
Don't agree with some of Capello's other picks though.......Michael Dawson has had a fine season and should have got the nod ahead of either Donkey Carragher or Upson who is not international class........Adam Johnson should have been picked ahead of Wright Phillips, who along with Lennon and Cole gives us 3 wide players who are all predominately right footed, Johnson has a fantastic left foot and is a fantastic crosser who also has a great shot on him, Capello should've gambled on Johnson but bottled it
As for the non-scoring Heskey going to South Africa and the free-scoring Darren Bent staying behind, well that decision beggars belief
Oh and by the way anotheroldgit, Sports news IS news so why shouldn't it be post in here? The news section is never inundated with questions so what difference does it make?

I would love for England to do well but I am pessimistic.
We always have our best chance in 20 years, and we always blame someone else for our demise.
Like you, I will happily eat my words and would love to be proved wrong, but on recent performances, my heart says we will win it and my dead says we will only last 3 matches.

>Michael Dawson ........Adam Johnson ....
Neither player has played a full game for England. It normally takes 6 to 10 games for any player to settle down at international level, so we have not got time to gamble on them.
Remember almost as soon as the World Cup finishes we start the qualification for the European Championship so I am sure Capello had one eye on that while looking at Dawson, Adam Johnson, Huddlestone etc.
While Heskey has not exactly set the world on fire he has bags of experience and is excellent at holding the ball up. At international level you need players to hold on to the ball.
Also if you look at the games he HAS played with Rooney and those he HAS NOT played with Rooney I think you will find that Rooney has scored about 10 goals with him playing and 2 goals without him playing.
Heskey contines to be picked by every England manager for years so he must be doing something right.

Point taken re inexperience but Upson has never looked good enough on the rare occasions he's played and Carragher hadn't played for England since turning his back on his country 3 years ago
Plus why did Capello choose the likes of Dawson and Adam Johnson but not give them game time in the recent meaningless friendlies to actually give them a chance to prove themselves at international level?.......because he obviously had no thought of ever taking them to South Africa

Yes I have we won the 20/20 the other week and the Rugby in 2003, we have won F1, 2 years running, the last olympics was a feast, oh yes I've known it, Football is one of many sports and the one sadly lacking in a trophy lately. I support our competitors in all of it, I don't care what sport it is I'm happy when we win. I was even delighted for the sweaties winning the elephant polo the other year and the lady curlers. Yes jno I pity your cynicism too. You're the sort that has to make up some reason why any of our wins are somehow invalid, the worst kind smug sh1tbag, well done!
