David Cameron said:
• No warning had been given to any civilians before the soldiers opened fire
• None of the soldiers fired in response to attacks by petrol bombers or stone throwers
• Some of those killed or injured were clearly fleeing or going to help those injured or dying
• None of the casualties was posing a threat or doing anything that would justify their shooting
• The events of Bloody Sunday were not justified
• Many of the soldiers lied about their actions
• Some members of the British armed forces acted wrongly
• The events of Bloody Sunday were not premeditated

Nobody has said the these soldiers should be prosecuted. And the IRA were prosecuted, and if convicted, sentenced to long terms in prison.
Does the fact that a murderer escapes prosecution for years mean that he shouldn't eventually face justice?
No there shouldn't be prosecutions - I don't often agree with AOG but in this case he was right the other day.

There have been a lot of releases of IRA and loyalist paramilitaries - this should be treated as part of the same process
I do understand the families wanting justice/closure, but what about the families of those shot/blown up by the IRA murderers?

Their killers are free men today thanks to the crazy Good Friday Agreement
jake...I agree with almost all that you have said.

The enquiry team was reassessing the event in the cold light of day in the comfort, probably of a hotel.

The "lads on the ground" were facing a mob, baying for blood.

Two differing assessments of the same situation, with almost certain differing inferences.
The "crazy" good Friday Agreement Luke brought peace to Northern Ireland

Or are you living in a little fantasy world where soldiers would kick in the door of every "Paddy" in NI and shoot them winning the war?

After Bloody Sunday IRA recruitment went through the ceiling - same with internment

The reason so many died in Ni was because of macho fantasies like that
The Good Friday agreement was so crazy it brought relative peace to NI for the first time in 35 years.

Some soldiers have already admitted wrong doing; they and any that are found guilty in any subsequent legal process should also have the benefit of the agreement's amnesty.

Finish. Move on.
Jake the peg........£200 million+ is hardly a drop in the ocean

An enquiry into events that happened 38½ years ago

Some people have obviously had a good earner out of all this over the years

As i said earlier, a total waste of money
joeluke

£200 million+ IS a drop in the ocean

compared with the money this country poured into the province during The Troubles.

.
joeluke...I think that I agree with you....BUT......how much is the truth worth for the innocents and their relatives?
I agree Sqad but no amount of money spent on enquiries will ever bring their loved ones back

I, for one, am pleased to see an end approaching on this matter.
I think 38 years is far too long to uncover the 'truths' that were already well-known.
I think, hard as it is to do so, the Bloody Sunday Massacre should be seen in isolation from the atrocities committed by the paramilitaries.
The dead on that dreadful day have been pronounced 'innocent'; innocent on the day that they died; innocent of posing any threat to the security forces.
To agree that they should never have died is NOT the same as capitulating to IRA/Sinn Fein; and is something I am glad has happened.
For far too long this has been a huge stick with which to beat Britain and the British Army.
Good point 10Clarion. why rake it all up now.
Jim Callaghan should never had sent the army into Northern Ireland in 1969 in the first place and a lot of the blame lies with him.

does anyone know why the IRA came into being?
The first shot was fired by the IRA, probably Martin McGuuiness personally so they started it end of, all the dead can blame the IRA.

This is a whitewash selectively picking facts.
put it another way, do we know why the IRA was founded in the 1st place?
